Sudan surprise?

Recommended Posts

Why are people surprised that Gillian Gibbons, the teacher, has been arrested in the Sudan for naming a teddy bear after the name of a religious person.

It is about time that people realised that they should not go about interfering in other contries and then be surprised that they then get themselves into trouble.

Too many do gooders out there - if she wanted to improve the learning of deprived children she had pleanty of victims in her home town - Liverpool!

You make a fair point but it wasn't Gillian Gibbons who named the teddy bar, it was one of her pupils and she just went along with it without a second thought or realising what the consequences would be.

Has everyone forgotten the poor cast-off teddy bear in this incident? There he was, happily going about his business with the name Muhammad, and now a load of nutjob religious fanatics are going about trying to shoot his owner.

What's a teddy bear to do? Change his name again? Get a new identity? Walk around with sunglasses on pretending his name is actually Bob or something?

These Islamic fundamentalists never think of the stuffed toys caught up in all this business when they go round burning flags and lashing people.

Good to see the Great British tradition of ridicule is alive and well.

But on a serious point if you look at the Overseas Development Agency (or whatever its called these days) you'l see we contribute aid of £113m to Sudan. Okay, a vast majority of this doesn't go to the Govt and lots of it goes to help displaced peoples in Darfur, but an element undoubtedly will end up in the hands of the regime. Lets just pull the plug on this, and while we are at lets make it illegal to burn the Union Flag anywhere in the world, just as the Yanks have done with theirs.

Glen Hoddle for Sudan national manager?

How do they make it illegal to burn their flag in other countries though? (Unless they've invaded them...!)

The irony of flag burning is, that is how Americans gets rid of all their old flags. You take them to a collection point, and whoosh...........They go up in smoke!

Led by Pudsey Bear. He probably wouldn't look out of place with a bandage across his forehead once the rent-a-protestors lynch him for his "Western plot against Islam" using that curious tool of modern warfare... the teddy bear.
