Must have been thrills all round when the pitch was next to all the rides at Dreamland. Surely WAS a FAMILY day out in those days.

I notice the ORIGINAL Coffin end showing there at HP. So,when & why DID the Coffin end change ends.

I always had the "bar" end down as the Coffin end" ever since I can remember & ever since I started supporting this club back in my younger days.

The bar end was the coffin end being the nearest to Coffin House Corner. For those too young to remember it there was a grocers shop on the corner where the traffic lights are now, that was coffin shaped to fit on the space between the 2 roads (hence Coffin House Corner). grin

Blimey, that takes me back a bit. Do you also remember the shunting goods trains behind Salmestone school? They would use the bridges over the Salmestone Road and Tivoli Park Road (I think) - the bridge decks have of course long since been removed.

Yeah,I remember all that AB.I went in the shop often but what was the reason for shifting the name to the "wilderness end"?

The bridges you mention were part of what was affectionately known when I was a kid as the old line. This was part of the original Margate to Ramsgate line, at that time you could walk along it right up to the now Westwood Cross and I believe even further, but of course that would mean going into Ramsgate. devil

No idea why it was changed.

No idea why it was changed.

Unless this snippet from Wikipedia means something about it:
In August 2005, Margate returned to Hartsdown Park after three years in the wilderness.
