Sutton

For us, this has got to be the biggest game so far this season. We need that win or it’s more or less curtains I would of thought. Sutton are fourth, 10 points behind us with a game in hand so it is a real six pointer for them to close the gap on us and must achieve a win also. We can forget beating St Albans so convincingly last week as they never really recovered after the first five minutes. A start like that for us would be most helpful but tomorrow will be more difficult. I can see us beating Aldershot next Tuesday and after that who knows. With our run in, the teams look beatable and if Aldershot slip up twice in their last 5 games then it’s ours and you can see them doing that with the teams to play. They have Purfleet away on the last day of the season two days after playing Hendon away so that looks hard for them. I’m sure St Albans will give a better account of themselves than against us as it was over in the first 5 minutes. And with Hendon again and Sutton away who knows with them. Hendon seem to always score goals so can Aldershot match them on the day/night.

First things first however. The really big game is to get a win against Sutton tomorrow.

Just like the home game, I reckon Danny Bolt will come back to haunt us. He's a quality player, wish we could've kept him!

Sutton at home should've been 3 points in the bag, just like Hayes, Kingstonian, Braintree & Purfleet all draws that should easily have been home wins!!!

We need to be 100% up for this from the kick-off, everyone needs to be focused and stick to the game plan without panic. Sutton will come at us and we will probably need a few ounces of luck to pull off a convincing win.

It's going to be really tough tomorrow, so we have to really get behind the lads.

I agree with Matt, Danny Bolt is a quality player and he certainly in his few games with Canvey showed that he is one of the best midfielders at this level.

Will be very hard tomorrow, according to the Echo, Prothers could be out but I reckon we'll nick it 2-1.

Protheroe claimed he wasn't feeling very well after he was subbed on Tuesday, he didn't look 100% when he walked past so that's no surprise.

I don't know of any new injuries or anything so I'll go for a team line up of:

1. Potter

2. Kennedy

3. Duffy

4. Chenery

5. Ward

6. Johnson

7. Bennett

8. Minton

9. Berquez

10. Boylan

11. Parmenter

SUBS:

12. Brayley

14. Graham

15. Davidson

16. N. Gregory

17. Harrison

I'm not going to predict a score, too close to call.

Good to see Danny Bolt's playing well for you. He only played a couple of games for us but looked a quality player.

Sutton are having an excellent season and I think will be a real threat next season. Will be a close game but should be a really great atmosphere tomorrow. Looking forward to it!!

Fred's bringing the bugle I think and hopefully we'll all be in good voice. I hope your neighbours from just down the road can do us a favour tomorrow.

I think if Watson & Gonsalves return tomorrow, then I reckon we'll make a decent game of it. Watso should cause havoc up front as per normal (but we won't be letting him take any penalties!).

Watch out for Nick Bailey too. Only 18, but I don't think I've seen any player better box-to-box than him in the Ryman.

Oh and of course, Bolty. Don't go conceeding too many free-kicks about 30-35 yards out. He's nailed 5-6 from that distance already this season! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Cheers Jared, only one question - when was the last time your pitch received a service?!

Once again I think the Ref' was a complete to$$er along with at least one of his Assistants.

If Wardy's injury is serious we'll miss him Tuesday night, Parms too. Good to see Gregors challenging for his place in the starting line-up made one and scored one.

I think Dobbo was Man of the Match for me, but Cheners, Benno & Berquez also had good games along with JK as always.

Roll on Tuesday...

Have you seen the editorial on the home page of the official Sutton website? They say, "Interesting to see how much effort a small section of the away supporters, put in to living up to their Essex stereotype."

I have my own theory about Sutton fans. Did you notice how so many of them seemed to have some slight abnormality about them? Nothing serious, but perhaps a bigger than normal nose, or lop sided ears, or one leg longer than the other, or a squint? I know not everybody is perfect (I know, look at me!) but it is the incidence of abnormality at Sutton that worries me. Is there a special residential home in the area that gives free tickets for home games, thereby exagerating the ratio of less than perfect people on the terraces, or does the local maternity hospital have a problem with its water supply.

Did anyone else notice?

I have to say well done to the lads today. This was a tough game on a difficult pitch but they deserved the ovation they got at the end. They battled and in the end played some good football. I though Benno, Wardy and Cheners were outstanding, nothing got past them all afternoon. J.K worked really hard as usual and Minton really showed his quality today.

Great finish by Greggors. I was really dissapointed with Sutton. I expected more from a fourth placed team but they showed they are a difficult side to beat.

Tuesday should be a really cracking game!!

Best moment of the afternoon had to be when a couple of older Sutton supporters sitting in the stand said to some of our supporters "the best thing that happened to Canvey was when they had the floods". One of our supporters replied back

"Oi mate, my grandad died in the floods". This Sutton supporter was supposedly very embarassed and got alot of abuse when we scored our first goal.

Sayin things about the Canvey floods is like SO out of order-- 50 odd people died on Canvey alone--lots more elsewhere---- lots of us Islanders must have had friends or relatives who suffered that night. Anyway, well done today boys keeps a bit of pressure on the shots--u never know what might happen in the coming weeks, we still have a chance with the title.

I think the guy said it as a joke and it seriously backfired on him. Anyway it sets up things nicely for Tuesday night and at the moment I wouldn't bet against us.

Who is the VV@nker that put that bit on their OFFICIAL website? I take it that is what the board and officials think of us. What a To$$er!!!

Believe me I can think of a lot of things to sterotype them.

What have they been doing there? Stem Cell Retards? Inbreeding? Are their supporters made up of two large families with lots of cousins? Embryos artificially created in a test-tube under Welsh/Sheep influence? I could go on.

Anyway what did we do to give them such 'ideas'? Do they consider telling the truth and venting their feelings as an 'Essex' thing?

Funny that the old codgers didn't have much to chant about throughout the game. What time did their care van come and pick them up? Silly sods fight for the seats so they can lick the windows!!!

Oh dear we have upset somebody! You know what they're like in leafy Surrey. Drinking on the coach!, oh that's not allowed, shouting at the ref, oh we don't do that at Sutton! You can almost here them saying "Essex people, what hooligans!!"

Goodness knows what they made of St Albans and EFM "That EFM absolute disgrace, should be banned for life!!"

We can probably come to the conclusion that Sutton is the poshest club in the Ryman.

Come on Sutton, you jolly fellows!!

How on earth are Sutton so high up the table. I did not see one worth while move from them. All they played was the big kick from their goalkeeper and hoped this would cause mayhem for our defenders, but they were a tower of strength. The pitch, particularly in the first half was unbelievable. Any attack we had, which happened mainly on the right hand side, was thwarted by the pitch. Any ball out there suddenly starting bouncing up in the air so you could not cross or do anything once you got to the bye line. The second half was one way traffic. There was only one side playing football today. The home team seemed scared to try and string a few passes together given the state of their pitch. Let’s hope they can give a good account of themselves to their fans for their remaining games of the season.
