A Fully Deserved Win For Aldershot Town

That's all I have to say.

They were fitter, faster, more skillful, more organised, they had certainly done their homework.

The only thing I would say was the same was the scoring ability in front of goal and we had more possession.

Aldershot have a real mean good old fashioned defence. 99% of clearances went to a red shirt, 99% of all passes went to a red shirt, 99% of the 50/50 balls fell for a red shirt every flick on fell right for a red shirt.

They were organised in defence as soon as the ball came into defence 99% of the time it went straight back out again, even if it did clear the stand.

It's a pity we had to lose by a penalty as I think the quality of play in front of goal was the same for both sides. It's just the defence that really worked for Aldershot every clearance we made either went out for a corner/throw in or straight back to a red shirt and into danger again!!!

Man of the Match for me had to be Danny Potter, I couldn't think of another player that deserved it. I don't think we wanted it to be honest everything seemed so half-hearted unless that was just Aldershot toying with us in the last quarter of an hour.

A final word to the Aldershot supporters. The vocal support tonight was superb and apart from the stupid yobs that came on the pitch and started throwing glasses into the crowd, they sang their hearts out all night.

I know they still need 4 points, but I think they can definately put the champagne on ice tonight. They've deserved it...

Cheers Matt

It was a great night the atmosphere was excellent. It was a good entertaining game I thought we did deserve the win but sure you guys will do better next year!!

Think you need to sort out segregation better tho thought that it was totally inadequate. The supporters were at most 5 metres away from each other with those waist high fences being a total waste of time. And you could have done with a few more stewards in between the fans. Also there seemed to be 50+ policemen outside the ground but only 10 inside???!!!

Anyway hope you guys can keep some of your floating glory hunters for the next season so you can improvce your gates and really push towards the Conference!!!

Not the best match we will ever see, but a good atmosphere and for us a good result.

Fingers crossed we are up now but all Aldershot supporters hope that you will be the team that joins us next year. You play the game as it should be played.

I couldnt describe how I would feel if we had finished 2nd, 3 seasons in a row after running the leaders so close. To get this close after the start to the season you had is truly remarkable.

All the best again, maybe we will meet in the Charity Shield early next season.

An excellent atmosphere at the game tonight, the teams were only ever going to be seperated by the odd goal.as some of your fans said on the way out, our players wanted it more.canvey looked to play good football, I was expecting that after your superb performance at the rec.we have hardly played pretty all season, but consistency has been the key. When we lost our top defender ray warburton I thought our defence would finally crack, but it stood firm.we knew we couldn't afford to lose tonight,a draw would have been fine, the 3 points a big bonus.it's not all over yet but 4 points from15 should be achievable.

I found myself standing with the more'vocal' of our supporters tonight, and they did not know who those were involved in the small pitch invasion,it seems a few troublemakers highjacked the game.Canvey Island will become a conference club, maybe not this year but not too far away.Good luck.

A great match to watch and one of the most enjoyable of the season. Both our games against Canvey have been seen true football played – the way it should be.

Yes we had the edge but only just - I think you are being a bit harsh listing where we were “better”, the difference was not that great and in some areas there was no difference.

The yobs who ran on the pitch - what can I say, they are idiots and we do not want them associated with our club. Some of them only turn up at "big games" and have already been banned from the Rec. I understand that they have also caused trouble for other clubs this season.

I am not yet saying it is all over, although the fat lady is preparing to sing. Only once she begins will I truly celebrate. Should we achieve our aim of promotion, I will feel for the Canvey fans, 2nd for the 3rd time running is a bitter pill to swallow.

Good luck for the rest of the season, best wishes for your cup final and hopefully at the end of next season you will achieve conference football.

Royston.

Unlucky, actually feel sorry for you guys...Next yr will be your year if nobody comes down into your league from the conference...Just one question, where do rate this Aldershot outfit compared to both us (Gravesend) and you lot last season. I cant really comment as havent seen Aldershot this yr but looking at the stats, it would suggest that they werent as good as what we both were last year. Also, how many years did Boylan sign his contract for last year cos we'd love to have him at the Fleet. We'll give u Che Stadhardt and a bit of cash in return !!

Last night's attendance of 3,553 was a new record attendance at Park Lane. It beat the 3,403 that watched Canvey play Brighton in the FA Cup in 1995.

That is some achievement!!

I rather feel like the Wolves of the Ryman League, close, but no cigar!!

I take back what I said the other week though, Northwich Victoria are not the only Conference team I've seen play foot-ball.
