Auctions, Pseudonyms and ...........oh yes, tattoos!!

Recommended Posts

Last Sunday afternoon out of curiosity I rather recklessly bid on the 'My Travel' auction site and 2 minutes later discovered I had got a weeks holiday in the Algarve, half board for two people for the pricely sum of £142. So I'm flying from Gatwick on the 27th!!!

Anyone else out there been on one of these holidays?

Another question guys.... Are you all guys? What I mean is... I openly post as a female but are there any other females out there hiding behind a pseudonym? ....Just wondered.

Mmmmm yes that tattoo. Well Rob was closest.... it's Chinese characters and is supposed to mean harmony but as I said it could actually say "this way up" or "handle with care" for all I know! Pabird.... it is right at the base of my spine so NO there won't be any photo shots of it appearing on here!!

Mmmm this could prove difficult!!......architect - could be female.

Archeology - one of my favourite interests so therefore not necessarily masculine. Football and rugby both have female fans (obviously up here we follow league, Bradford Bulls in particular). However, your interest in my spine, now that could be a tricky one. All I can say is that if you are female your interest in my anatomy could result in a black eye!!!!!!!!

I am actually going on holiday to Greece's third largest island, just to confuse you!

What's rugby got to do with it?

Is your interest in archaeology active or purely armchair?(nothing wrong with that).

Maybe the clue is in my name.

I don't think she'll find much in her sofa

If of course Halifax Lass is a woman. Whoever heard of a woman who liked football?

[color:"red"]So your going to the North East Aegean Island where Sapho was born. The name could be confusing or just be a red herring (sardine)

What's rugby got to do with it?

[color:"red"]Northing, just proving that women can be actively involved in tradional masculine sports

[color:"red"] Family connections, relative had a Phd in archaeology and lectured in it and also wrote books on the subject

Maybe the clue is in my name.

[color:"red"] Well you're either very transparent or very clever!

Yes lovely Easter (with mabird)
I was thinking of running the raffle myself and do you know what I bet I would get lucky?
By the way no one ever prosecuted for ideas
How about your Easter?

Good Morning pabird........ Had a good Easter, somewhat hectic trying to fit in visiting family and getting ready for the above mentioned holiday.

Now why should you think you'd get lucky? Fixing the result...... were you a Ref?!!!!!!!!!

[color:"orange"] I am impressed - most people think the collective noun derived from the name of the island is because everyone on that island is one - which in another sense they are of course - rather than from the works of Sapho! But I am really going there.

[color:"purple"] Oh I see.

[color:"red"] Family connections, relative had a Phd in archaeology and lectured in it and also wrote books on the subject

[color:"purple"] Impressed again - who was your relative, if that is not a rude question - my field is later prehistory, so if he/she is a prehistorian I may have heard of him/her.

[color:"red"] Well you're either very transparent or very clever!

[color:"purple"] No comment!

[color:"red"] Is your trip to Lesvos a holiday or a dig? (If I may so bold as to ask?) [color:"red"]

I tried to write in pink as it's such a girlie colour but it doesn't work! (To prove to those doubting Thomas's above that I am female)

Just a holiday. Doing very little, at most.... having the sort of lunch that merges imperceptibly with dinner... lazing on deserted picturesque little beaches... driving round the interior looking for little taverna things... you know the sort of thing.

The only down side is that I tried to hire a Land Rover (God's own vehicle) but there's not one available on the island. I will have to suffer the indignity of driving a sillly little japanese caricature of a 4x4...

Digging these days is mostly between Milton Keynes and Northampton - not quite as exotic but actually much more picturesque than it sounds. See www.countyarch.com.

I like islands - I spent a week in Orkney last year!

Yep, know exactly what you mean. Found parts of Corfu that I don't think even the locals knew existed (only cos we kept getting lost, despite the fact that my daughter worked there)! Travelling on the local buses on market days along with the chickens and the goats. Consuming too much Ouzo and Retsina. Aaah such memories. Hopefully wherever I end up in Portugal next week will be pretty laid back at this time of year.

Afraid Orkney doesn't appeal to me for a holiday. One of my colleagues has just got himself a job in Orkney with the Social Services Department and the whole family have just moved up there.

Your link wouldn't connect btw.

Hmm, I'm almost tempted to forget the car and get buses...

Orkney was an archaeological holiday, by my invisible self, in a tent, just going round the inner islands looking at prehistoric stuff. Oh yes and I drank some beer and met some locals, including the championship winning Stromness Ladies Hockey team, who celebrate by wearing their kit to the pub. I drank something red and sticky out of the trophy.

I've never been to Portigal but it was between that and Greece. Hope you have a good time anyway, behave yourself. No, sod it, why behave, you're on holiday!

I trust you will be posting your holdiay pics?

I think I should not have put the full stop at the end, it's www.countyarch.com

Wow, I'm impressed, very serious stuff. I'm a complete amateur by comparison. Did you do archaeology at uni then?

Camping...tents... Spent a couple of weeks camping in central France two years ago. Sharing a small tent with giant wasps, snakes and mosquitos was HELL. (Sharing it with my cousin was even worse)!! Decided there and then that I needed a bit more luxury these days.

I intend to have a totally dissipated holiday... sleep-drink, eat-drink, read-drink, swim-drink etc..........
