Waltham Forest Ground Move

Recommended Posts

An interesting thread has developed on another's

Forum about the unfortunate circumstances of Waltham Forest having to vacate Wadham Lodge at such short notice and also covers a multitude of sins including the situation with Romford. I'm curious to know what Forest supremo Ged Searson makes of it all, I have it on good authority from Kentish Town boss Clement Temile that he reads this board so hopefully he will come on:

It looks like Ged Searson is slowly but surely turning things around at Waltham Forest according to the Non League Today Website:

Ryman League Divison One North club Waltham Forest are quietly pleased with their pre-season preparations so far.

Despite just avoiding the drop last season, manager Ged Searson was starting to get a nucleus of a team together that he felt had the quality to do more than just survive this term.

Four players who looked very impressive in the relegation dog fight have all indicated that they intend to stay with the club.

Goalkeeper Roberto Cagliardi La Gala, an Italian signed from Dulwich Hamlet, certainly looked an excellent stopper.

Midfield player Gazmen Dauti (pictured) was signed from Arlesey Town and impressed the manger so much, he was immediately made captain and was an inspirational leader.

Defenders Tom Howell and Philip Barrow are both out of university football and, although not the finished article, they showed enough in the last dozen games to indicate they will form a strong central defensive partnership.

Barrow netted the side's second goal in the 3-0 win at Enfield Town that virtually ensured safety for the club.

On top of these players, the club held a trial session a few weeks ago and out of thirty players, there were eight invited back for official training, which started last weekend.

As well as these players, Searson has already lined up another half a dozen from senior non-League circles who he earmarked last season as those he wanted to bring in for this season.

The club has so far lined up friendlies against Molesey - Saturday 19th July (away) - Barking - 22nd July (away) and Soham Town Rangers 9th August (away) plus a provisional game against Clapton at the Metropolitan Police Sports ground on a date to be confirmed.

With the club now officially settled at Ilford's Cricklewood Lane ground, in an initial one year ground share and with regular training facilities now sorted out, the club is hoping that this season will be a period of stability after the last two turbulent years that has seen two chairman leave and four managers come and go.

The club will be looking for a position well away from the bottom of the table and an outside chance of reaching the play-offs.

Given the events over the last eight or nine months, that acheivement would border on the miraculous.

If you mean Ilford's ground is a shithole you are being unfair. OK Ilford FC is lacking support but a few people are making a good job of welcoming visitors, there's a decent bar and tea-bar, the fact that there is an athletics track which puts the kybosh on a decent atmosphere is the fault of the bloody council and not Ilford FC.

Give credit to those who keep fighting an uphill battle aagainst all the odds and stop being so bloody negative.

And my remarks equally apply to Waltham Forest. Good luck to both clubs. Maye there is scope for unwinding a bit of football history by eventually amalgamating if they are ever ready for that.

Is that how you feel about athletics stadiums doubling up as football grounds, I'm surprised as there are one or two out there where you wouldn't know the difference and you could easily be at a good old fashioned ground such as Loftus Road for example or the old Upton Park where the crowd can touch the players, Kentish Town, in the SSML Premier Division, is one Club who ply their trade at the Barnet Copthall Athletics Stadium and the atmosphere is electric.

Goosey I disagree with you on that Ilford might not have the fans but the ground is def not a shithole the only thing i feel that ruins the ground is the running track but like someone has said its not Ilford FCs folt its the council and they have a nice clubhouse aswell

I'm sure that Ged Searson will come on shortly to give his view, I know he reads the board religiously. He will probably take the stance that beggars can't be choosers following Waltham Forest's expultion from Wadham Lodge last season, indeed the Club were quite fortunate to come out of that sorry episode relatively unscathed.
