Guardianistas? Hmmm. Think of that yourself, did you? Very good. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I'm not saying that any old Tom, Dick or Abdullah should be allowed to come waltzing in and sponge off the system. The bogus asylum seekers are a nuisance, an economic strain and make it harder for those who are genuinely fleeing persecution, whom we should be protecting - it's part of being British (English or however one wishes to be known). The majority of genuine refugees want to get an education and work and make a better life for themselves.

But the constant references, particularly in The Sun and The Mail refer to all immigrants as 'Asylum Seekers' is causing the difference to be blurred and giving the middle-classes and Little Englanders a scapegoat for all the nation's ills.

I beleive this happened before in recent history. In 1930's Germany, if I remember correctly...... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

And the other cause for concern is that the derision tends to be directed particularly towards Muslim immigrants. There seems to be very little said about asylum seekers from other parts of the globe, or the huge influx of immigrants from the EU. Still, I suppose they look more like us and practice Christianity.

But, conversely, I'm sure all those other nations in the world are so glad when we emmigrate there. Like all those Brits out in Spain for example. Live there for years without ever learning a word of Spanish, ignore or destroy the local culture and history, eat English food, watch English TV and make no attempt to assimilate. I'm sure the locals love them!

PS. I generally read the Indie <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
