Cancelling the Road Tax increases

Recommended Posts

I don't know about you, but I am fed up with our Prime Minister imposing massive stealth taxes retrospectively on the

public.

I am especially concerned with the VED (Road Tax) increases planned at a time of extreme fuel costs, hugely increased food bills, and the fact that it is NOT aimed at the wealthy gas-guzzlers, but people with everyday cars (a 1.8 Diesel Ford Mondeo from 2001 gets hit!). Greedy Gordon (as good a nick-name as I've heard in a long while) needs to be told to back off the taxes!!

So what do we do? Well go to the link below, and sign the petition - http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/UNFAIR-VED/

Transport and infrastructure

There will be 9 MILLION people adversely affected by this tax rise, and yet only 15,000 people have signed the petition. Let's see if we can get to

1 MILLION signatures by the end of July, yes?

PLEASE sign up to this, and pass it on to as many people as you can.

It will only take 5 minutes of your time, and could make a real change!

Fine words, and very easy to say (unless you're eating toffee at the same time, or p1ssed) but not very realistic or just.

Like it or not we are dependant on oil at present, including the use of motor vehicles, and that situation has very much been encouraged by government (of both persuasions) policy. The way we live has changed - no longer is it the norm for one partner (female) to remain at home, shopping almost daily and devoting her time to domestic cleaning, cooking etc. while the male partner works close to home, probably in manufacturing industry and at the same firm most of his life.

In short it is not the people's fault and they should not be punished (taxed) for something unavoidable. We already ARE taxed to the hilt on petrol/diesel. There needs to be some investment and legislation. Instead of suitting around waiting for the private sector to kindly develop hydrogen engines or whatever how about government investment in R&D? How about puting realistic public transport in place as a viable alterntive BEFORE raking in the tax revenue while still appearing to be th egood guy? Reinstating some of the railways that were axed in the 60s/70s? Spending some of our taxes on us?

In theory, yes. In pratice we have a choice between two identical parties with no discernable ideological difference. But all the parties have cottoned on to the wheeze that if they label a tax as 'green' the gullible will praise them for it, even if it soen't make much sense. Thus there is no alternative.

The problem is that fuel is not a dispensable luxury that we should be discouraged from using, like naughty children. Excessive and frivalous use, yes, but we need to cook, heat and light our homes and workplaces, power industry and transport.

Meanwhile our MPs are on salaries far above the average and are shielded from the effects of their policies. They even get an allowance for a second home!

Electing the Government of our choice is one thing, but when they get to the Palace of Westminster, they have do what the party whips tell 'em !

That's not democracy in my book !
