Just bought the MADCHESTER - NME Originals magazine at lunchtime. Absolutely superb. Basically it's reproduced every article and Album Review NME have ever printed on the Madchester scene of the late-80's/early-90's.

Focusing mainly on the Fab Foursome of The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Inspirals and Charlatans, it also features articles on the likes of Northside, and some of the lesser Madchester bands.

Thornsy - make sure you buy it! Quality!!

I saw the Charlatans at Finsbury Park when they supported Oasis last year and they were excellent.

Unfortunately the day I went to Finsbury was the Friday when it chucked it down with rain and turned the park into a mud heap.

It rained just before the Charlatans came on and then after they finished it was absolutely torrential.

By the time Oasis came on I was soaked to the skin and freezing cold. My predicament was not help by being elbowed in the stomach moshing to 'Hello' and then nearly being hit by an umbrella during 'Hung in a Place'. Still, it was a fantastic gig.

Was that the gig when Tim Burgess (Charlatans singer) had a bit of a go at the crowd for throwing bottles?

I knew The Real People were scouse, just testing... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

James are a Manchester band though, I guess they just really meant The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays, plus a couple of token entries. Shame, I personally prefer both The Inspirals and The Charlatans, but I guess that's just me...

Of the four, the Mondays were always my least favourite - the Roses my number one!

I remember at the time, The Charlatans got slated for being Roses wannabes, yet they've carried on whilst the others all split (Mondays and Inspirals reunion tours aside). Indeed, throughout the 90's, only Blur had more number one albums.

James are a Manchester band, but I wouldn't really have described them as being part of the "Madchester" scene.
