So..... what happened?

Wasn't a great game by our standards, but I felt that neither team played well and the officials didn't help the flow of the game.

Saying that though, Yeading do deserve credit as they obviously did their homework and didn't let us play football how we wanted to and you could see what it meant to them after.

Anyway we'll rematch Aldershot in two years times in the two conference games.

The truth is Steve we were absolutely [****!!****] and didn't want it!! That's what it all boils down to, players played out of position everything so half-hearted and up in the air it was the worse performance Canvey had put in all season and now they get a holiday in Greece(?) to look forward to!!

I don't know - I arrange to stay at my brothers - convince him that he should come and watch Canvey - and your players were [****!!****].

Canvey Fan - Yeading played well - their captain never stopped shouting - I heard very little from your players - who all seemed uninterested. Your manager and coach were not behind the players, and neither were your fans. I thought our fans could dislike players - but you supporters positively hated your team today.

I was chatting to an elderly supporter of yours after the game - he had never seen you play so poorly - reckoned the players were off to Greece tomorrow - not sure if that is true!!!

Pleasant ground - but no beer on tap

Come on Canvey fans - why were your players so poor? I think it will be a long time before I come back to watch you.

LOl - took me so long to write my reply - that Matt had already posted what I had said.

So the holiday was true - I think your manager should take them to Butlins instead.

Good luck for the new season Canvey - and give Hornchurch a stuffing for us

I think Jeff King should cancel the holiday altogether and refuse to hand out any end of season bonuses!!

Interesting to see who will go and who will stay after today's performance? Once again this season, in with a chance but leave with nothing!!

Wealdstone Fan, I agree that Yeading wanted it more but Canvey were appalling.

Greggors kept getting in the way of shots and we began to play the long ball game that doesn't suit us.

One thing that did make me smile was when JK and Benno challenged a Yeading player and JK screamed in pain as Benno tackled him, the referee thinking that the scream was from the Yeading player booked Benno.

To challenge next season, Canvey need better secondary centre backs but I don't think up front that we are poor so lets all look forward to next season

I am really going to stick my neck out here and get a shell right in the face, but I don't care this is how I've seen things today...

Gregory & Duffy were to two laziest players on the field - I could tell after 15 minutes that neither of them wanted to be there.

Proths, JK & Minton all seemed a yard or so behind everything and even they began to give up in the second half.

Boylan tried, but up against three 6ft+ defenders he could do f**k all!

Ashley was soooo hesitant when it came to collecting balls that he completely slowed the game down and let Yeading re-group.

Bertie was absolutely useless when he came on, Parms wasn't on form either. Another player I could tell from the first 15 minutes. He wasn't playing that well at Kingstonian...

...and how insulting for Craig Davidson!! Crow scores the winning goal when we should have thrown the game away at Hayes that starts our run to the Final and today he's left on the bench and replaced by a Midfielder!!

I mean come on at least if you're going to insult the guy at least use a defender and not a Midfielder to rub it in too much!

Dobbo is a Midfielder, just like Benno they play better in Midfield!! Chenery was playing Left-back, (Craig's position) when he was much better at right-back on Saturday. Dobbo is a Midfielder like I've said and shouldn't be playing right-back and Benno for years the fans know Benno is much better in the middle than at the back so he plays at the back. If I was Craig Davidson I would walk away now! Join Stimmo at Grays at least you'll get a game Crow!!

Did we throw it away or did we throw it away? I'm so very glad that this is the end of this season, if it was the beginning I don't think I could've taken much more or these shoddy tactics - it was disgraceful!!!

Oh and I almost forgot...even as a memeber of the Press, I still had to pay to watch the crap!!!

I just feel sorry for Potter, he puts in stunning performances every time he plays and invariably gets left on the bench, an insult to the man!! Mind, I would say that it best he wasn't playing today with most of the remainder of the players not wanting it!

I agree with Mervs match report, if I could have foreseen that Dire performance from the Canvey players I would have stayed at home and done some gardening, much more rewarding!

O, and if Ian has the time I suggest he gets down to Park Lane and take some photos from the North Bank. the state of the pitch with a JCB doing some business on the drainage would make a good collection for the photo gallery!

Our team were in a worst state than Park Lane was today..

At last! Merv in his true and honest report has actually critisized the management team.I have done it in the past and been hammered by everyone for daring to do it,maybe some of you will admit they the do have their faults and that it is not a crime to come on here and say so.

As Matt said in his remarks you could see after 15 minutes some players just couldnt be bothered today so why wasnt Michael Lee given a chance at least he always shows total commitment .I agree about Crow not playing he must have felt really gutted ,the way he has been treated this season must make him wonder why he bothered coming back.

Also I dont think I have ever seen on here when people have been selecting their prefered team anyone select Ash over Potter so what is it that the management team see in Ash that nobody else does,I realise he has to have a game now and again but not when we are putting out a weakened defence.

I think the way the team played today and the failure of the management to do anything about it was an insult to the fans who have paid good money and travelled a lot of miles this season to support them, they should all be ashamed of themselves.

I was really looking forward to the charity game against you,as i think both shots and gulls have built up a mutal respect, and it would have been a top class game(no insult to yeading, as they will probably scalp us to!).I would like to agree see you at some conference games in two years time, but of course we will be back in the league by then!:-). actually, as long as we don't meet in the rymans, thats fine by me.If we do play u at your place, can it be in the spring 'cos i don't fancy standing outside at your place in the middle of winter.Best of luck next season

Well, just read Merv's match report and some strong words have been said. Let's face it today was not good enough! At the start of the season few people were bothered about the Bryco Cup and if we had been knocked out by Hayes early on it wouldn't have been a disaster.

We get to the final, play a decent enough 11 and play like a bunch of to$$ers against an ordinary Ryman one side who are no better than Great Wakering!! If we're are going to show a lack of commitment why didn't we do it against Enfield or Kingstonian when it didn't really matter! It makes you wonder if half the players will be here next season and whether some knew before the start of the game that this would be their final game for Canvey (explains the lack of passion).

Anyway in the next couple of days, I will sit down and write my review of the season. I was hoping to have something optimistic to finish the season with but look what happens! Once I've cooled off and my anger disappeared I will make a start and hopefully my final product will be available for you to read by next week.

Should make interesting reading!

A right back on the left side of defense a mid-field ball winner at CB and another mid-field ball winner on the right side of defense

Against a team of players who all appeared to be over six feet two we played long high ball attack to our CF who from first whistle to last won next to nothing in the air

The highest goal scorer in the premiership was left attempting to out jump lads who would not have looked out of place at O!Rourkes drift

The mid-field got zero on the floor supply until the last twenty minutes

At least two players desperatley out of salts played the full game

Astounding really we lost

YA2003 whilst in agreement that wasting a bank holiday watching a substantial pile of crap there are two issues I feel should be made clear

1. Yeading players gave 100% in every position for the cause

and

2. I do not believe certain players were apathetic.

Benno,Chenners and Dobinson (sometimes Proths) gave all the effort called for but in being played out of their natural positions they could not perform to normal standards

Why? because Yeading had a (very) simple game plan that put all of our defenders under consistant pressure and players out of position under pressure get rid of the ball rather than play the ball

Jeff and JK grafted hard but mostly to recover situations rather than being part of building moves

Boylan is without doubt up there with the finest in non-league football and worked just as hard as he does normally but even goal scoring machines need to be fed ammunition

Think back to the final 20 minutes or so when Chenners was allowed to return to the right side of defense with Crow located into his natural left side of defense

We now placed their number 9 under control

We now started to play the ball out of defense with a high percentage of accuracy

We now had both sides of defense joining in effectively with both the mid-field and the attack

And our goal machine started to look the part as the percentage of accurate passes to his feet increased to the norm

O!k too little too late but not all the players were apathetic
