Sunburn;European Union;Immigration:Lifeboat Theory and Tits!

Recommended Posts

Wow lads, I'm well impressed, you have been busy during my absence, some very inflammatory discussions! Great holiday, good food, rather too much wine and fantastic weather for most of the time... hence the sunburn.

Portugal has embraced the European Union with much fervour. Which is not surprising seeing as they get more out of it than they put in!! They are not happy with the Euro though, didn't have a good word to say about it. Strange country, they signpost every golf course/complex (and there are hundreds) but you're hard pushed to find a signpost for any major destination. Ended up in Spain one day!!

Urchino Vr2 please, please do not get me started on the asylum seekers, refugee or immigration debate. If you really want a true picture of the situation meet me at Bradford Interchange one day and I'll give you a conducted tour. Which brings me to the Lifeboat Theory........ if you try and get everyone on board in the end you sink. Basically this country cannot afford to continue paying out the large amount it does to those who do not make any contribution to the economy. I have had contact with families where no-one but the eight year old at school can speak English and no-one works. Why should they when they receive in the region of £400 per week in benefits. Would you?? We are the only country in the EU and possibly the world that does it.

Tits? Mmm that takes me back to the first topic...... sunburn!!!

ps pabird, why is it that all guys on "golfing" holidays are like adolescents on a school trip?!!!!!!!!

Does the sunburn extend to the tattoo?

I suppose the distinction to be made is between those who do not, and those who cannot, work. Frankly I don't want to work but I haven't figured out how to get away with not working yet. Perhaps I should leave the country and come back in again?

There are plenty of recent newcomers around here who work hard, run small shops and so on. There are plenty who don't, as well. Many of the kids are, shall we say, less than endearing.

Are they seeking asylum? Refugees from oppression? Hardly likely. If they were, in such numbers then the problem needs to be sorted out at source - otherwise every time an oppressive regime pops up somewhere, the entire population will nip over here. Lifeboats, I guess. Like, I don't mind slipping a quid to a bag lady, but I'm buggered if I'm giving my whole salary to the homeless. Slightly dodgy analogy, there...

Economic migrants? More likely. Lifeboats full though - let's help impoverished nations out how and where we can, at source as it were, let's work towards every human being having a decent life. It is after all the western influence that has buggered most other places up. But they can't all come in. Sorry to let you down Urchinho...

Glad you had a good trip Lass, do you need a hand with the after-sun lotion?

[color:"red"] To the tattoo and beyond (or should I say behind?!)

Gosh you must have incredibly long arms to reach from Enfield to Halifax. Lovely thought, thank you. However, people are beginning to talk!!!!! [color:"red"]

Welcome home Lass, you have been big time missed

Golfers! well imagine visiting your chosen heaven and how you would perform for the first week

I do much appreciate how you do your homework prior to comment

As for tits you missed their left tit march which of course is mostly funded by benefits in cost of attendance and (mine alone) income tax in the clear up behind the mostly pathetic little non-commitment members of our society

Protect those white bits

I'm glad someone has realised that it is not just economic migrants who sponge off the system.

Their are just as many natives who fleece the system and cost us fortunes. Particularly the grimleys and swampys!

Now then - important matters. As a new boy, I may need some filling in of various topics.

No. 1: Halifax Lass. Tattoo. Expand..............

(and I dont mean expand the tattoo!)

I'm wasn't gonna bite Invisible 2 cos if you have to ask the question the answer won't mean anything to you...

but.....can't help meself with this one.....

trouble with golf of course is that fundamentaly it is seen by most as an expensive 'middle class' sport.....poppycock....

when I first started playing as a 10 year old (after caddying on sat and sun mornings for a shilling a round ) it was unheard of for kids to be involved in golf clubs....the resident pro who taught me (lots of things as well as golf) .....

wasn't even allowed in the clubhouse unless by invitation from the president or club captain....

as the years went by I became quite a proficient golfer and represented my county...(football got in the way shortly after and anyway...there wasn't any dosh or crumpet around golf in those distant days).....

I was a scruffy kid from a country council estate...I worked at the golf pros shop in the school holidays and played and practiced for free....the pro was not old school tradition...he looked for and cultivated potential....he was an RAF war hero.....and he chain smoked senior service as he enthralled me with his tales of derring do and those stories influenced my views............he had a major influence on my formative years....

he taught me manners and discipline...he taught me how to win and how to lose with grace.....he taught me that cheating was for cheating sakes and the pleasure of winning when you've cheated or broken the rules was quickly soured when you next glanced through a looking glass....

he made me realise that golf courses were not just a challenge but a wonder of nature and there to be enjoyed.....he often quoted the great Ben Hogan....

'you've gotta smell the flowers along the way son'

as my golf improved he took me to play at wentworth....sunningdale.......st andrews...and other great golfing citadels....he introduced me to people that I would never have met outside of golf and he ensured that I finished my education and he was instrumental in arranging the scholorship that allowed that.......

he wasn't just a person to me....he represented everything that is golf.... its etiquettes.... its insistence on humility and its whole way of life.......that game taught me values and taught me how to conduct myself on and off the course....those values have steered my life since and yes ....

I still love the game and yes I still return to that golf club often and yes there is a brass plaque commemerating a very special golfing pro and a very special man.......as I write I can hear him.......

'I don't give a flying f*** son if its raining bombs...get out there and practice and don't come back until your fingers are bleeding'....

great stuff......
