Alaile or Shave?

It is our intention to re-sign Paul Shave, but as far as I know it hasn't yet been completed. (it should be done sometime today)

We have a lot of games scheduled, and if we lose another one or two to the weather it will become a problem.

Paul will give us a lot of energy and a different option should we need it...and he likes at at Billericay.

I was hoping and praying that the Gazette had got it wrong, but alas, my worst fears have been confirmed. I'm glad that Paul Shave likes it at Billericay, which is kinda ironic when you think about it! I personally think his re-signing is shocking, he wasn't good enough then and he certainly won't be good enough now, god only knows the football is dull enough as it without him hoofing the ball all over the park. How about blooding some of this talent in the Reserves/Youth that we keep hearing about? Just a suggestion. Still, he had a good game at East Thurrock once.

Over and out.

It's always good to hear that players like being at the club!

But I really cannot understand this signing.. Ok so we have a lot of games coming up and we need players to keep fit, however it's all good keeping fit, but Paul needs to control himself to get less suspensions then he has had previously.

Like ryan, he had one good game for us, which was East Thurrock, but why can we not try out reserve players?

Who's to say we won't? We've a tough schedule over the next couple of months and the addition of one player to the first team squad is unlikely to affect the chances of fringe or reserve players too much, in my opinion.

If those who control the purse strings are prepared to take the risk I think we should just be pleased that he's another option available when needed.

TIP TOP signing for the club........

His dynamism in midfield combined with his level headedness in his well timed tackling will really push us up the table.

Am sure the management team worked hard to bring such a creative player to the club, he will make the difference on a cold and windy Tuesday when we have been lumping the ball forward for 80 minutes.

Welcome back............

Interesting that we didn't have enough money to retain a creative midfielder in Adrian Deane, but we have for Shavey who 'may' stay on the pitch for the full ninety minutes!!

Anyone know the state of his disiplinary recore since he left us?

When's his next ban due?

As Bluetone says we are starting to pass the ball around more, rather than just hoof it up to our 'tall' strikers.

After letting Burbo go we have lacked height in the oppo box, so at least Shave will give us that option!

Wonder who's going to make way for him.........

I personally wouldnt pull any of the midfielders out to replace them with Shave. i mean fair enough we need a centre midfielder as cover for Dormer and Hunter but i dont think Shave is the answer. he is good at battling and winning headers and will give 100% but i would say we need a target man up front more than another midfielder. all the forwards used so far this season have been ver similar and none of them have height other than burbs who has gone. I dont see why we would sign shave to be a back up? pointless if u ask me?

If this signing goes ahead, it will be an utterly ridiculous thing to do.

Shave has let us down time and time again and I, and many others, were delighted when we eventually managed to ship him out.

He is a complete liability and re-signing him would simply state that this Management have no clue whatsoever.

A backward step would be to sign an ex-player who was good.

To re-sign a player who was as inept as that clown would be way beyond backward.

After the way he let us down previously I am angry that the club would even contemplate bringing him in.

If he re-signs, the only option left to us is to get the Managers out NOW.

This is a clueless disgraceful move and one that would totally destroy any confidence in their abilities.

In line with Gazza's comments on a different post to a different person, my CV will be sent to the Chairman if and when this signing is confirmed.

While I'm at it, I might write one for the dog too because even a dumb animal (no comparison to Shave intended, although..) can see that this is ridiculous.

DO NOT BRING BACK THIS LIABILITY.

If its to make up numbers, why did we recently let Deane and King Solomon go?

After last night's drab performance we clearly need someone or something, but Shave?

Don't be so bloody stupid.

Hi Paul - if you've managed to read on this far without deciding to hang up your boots for ever, welcome back if indeed you are coming back. I trust the Managers to make the correct decisions within their budget for the best of the team and the club, so it's up to you to repay the trust they are putting in you and for you to prove the doubters wrong.

I have to agree with most of the posts above that this is a very poor signing.

Shave is not good enough for Billericay, as a couple of others have noted we have just started playing some half decent football again for the 1st time since Matt Jones left and this seems a big step backwards to me. As others have pointed out, youth must be given a chance at some point!

I don't usually post on here very much but I am just so dissapointed by this that I felt I had to air my view.

Barry, whilst I fully respect your opinion, my original comment was made in response of someone reporting that they made a comment, possibly in passing to one of the managers and reported the response. Now it's easy to make a comment in passing, which could be interpreted as "glib"...therefore I would imagine that the response was "glib". But how brave to come on here and report that as the "attitude" of the manager / managers whithout stopping and having "the conversation". But what am I saying here...do I expect anymore...frankly no.

Jason and Grant put in the hours and when I saw Jason, he was not in the best of moods (not making any excuses here for that). It matters to him and I would expect it wasn't the best time to speak to him but as usual, it's taken that any response both managers make to either a passing comment or criticism, be it unfair or glib gets reported and I suppose it goes with the territory that it will be reported unfavourably...Hey ho

Oh and for the record, I do have an opinion and I don't agree with some of the decisions made last night or in fact over the season but I "have the conversation" with both the Chairman and the managers. They have the benefit of knowing who "GazzaBTFC" is...

By the way...welcome back Paul...

Best considered post in this thread so far, in particular the point about "within their budget".

I'd suspect that a Paul Shave, with an improved disciplinary performance, offers excellent value for money.

If you have re signed, welcome back Shave-o, good luck with your second chance. Hope it works out for all our sakes.

Not sure what you're going on about here, Gazza, but I notice you manage to harp back to how my comments aren't as legitimate if I put them on here as if I spoke to the managers.

Firstly, how do you know I haven't had "the conversation" with Jason about it?

Secondly, my comment re the CV was because you said that if we thought we could do better, then put our CV forward to do the job.

Well, if they re-sign Paul Shave, then yes I could do better.

Although I don't have the necessary experience that I would expect the chairman to require, I would not include any players in my team that have consistently let down the team.

They even admitted that by ditching him, and then had the crass stupidity to think that we would be better off having him back.

I therefore believe that I could do a better job and will therefore forward my CV accordingly.

No glibness, no intentions of bravery; just simple fact.

You don't like that - fair enough.

I am sure you have an opinion, and it is as welcome as anyone elses.

You would obviously prefer to discuss your thoughts in person with the management and chairman.

I prefer to air my opinion on a fans forum which, I believe, has the intention of a discussion of opinions between fans of the club.

However, if Shave has signed, the Chairman will know who I am because he will have my CV on his desk.

And my dog's!
