'Ricay v. Canvey - Tuesday 10th March, and others.

Recommended Posts

An interesting fixture line up in the RPL tomorrow evening. Probably wrong to dwell on what another 3 points, combined with a few other results going our way, could do for our league standing. It's a local derby, after all, and brings with it its own pressures, not least of which is revenge for "Black Monday", back in August.

Looking at Canveys recent results it appears they're not too keen on leaving their Island Paradise. Their away form of late has been poor; in fact the last point they chalked up anywhere other than Park Lane was back on the 29th November last year, when they came away from Heybridge 3-2 winners.

Lets hope we can convert a few more of our chances and balance the books.

Looking forward to the latest installment of the "Scum Derby". Though our results of late on the road have not been too clever, the performances have been a lot better than these results suggest. Could very easily have nicked a point at Staines & Dover, so tonight could be the night we turn the performance into the result.

I'm gonna go Ricay 1-2 Canvey, with Gabriel Fanibuyan scoring a last minute winner for the Mighty Gulls!

Come on You Yellows!

Reckon the Canvey Scum won't be in a hurry to get home - Latest scientific predictions announced today regarding global warming indicates that the sea level will rise to double original estimate so 'Goodbye Canvey'

Watch out for those floating caravans !!

Heads dropped & confidence was shot after Canveys 2nd goal. We desparately needed a "leader" on the pitch at that point to fire the team up again and I don't think anyone really stepped up to the mark.

The early Penalty in the second half was just what we needed. You could see the spirit re-kindled and some belief that we could get back into it. So we decide to take a break and stand around wathching whilst they casually walk through our defence and score a third. Then a fourth.

We found a bit of spirit towards the end, but it was too little too late.

I thought Dave Wareham & Ash did well tonight, but there were one or two senior players looking less than average. Shave made one or two nice touches on the ground as well as winning most of his arial battles, cleanly.

It's three points lost at home and who the oppo is doesn't matter in the greater scheme of things.

A chance to get back to winning ways on Saturday. Let's hope it doesn't snow.

I thought canvey fully deserved their win tonight and we were absolutely poor.. Not for the first time either. But it doesn't hurt as much as it used to.. Because these performances are becoming too regular so you know what to expect some of the times. Players seem to be playing as in individual sometimes, and not as a team.

Why we tend to hoof the ball up in the air against 6ft+ defenders I have no idea, can someone answer this please?

The only entertaining thing in this game was having some banter with their keeper.

Off to Harlow now.

When we're allowed to play football, we are a decent side. Tonight was one of those nights where out attacking players were given space and allowed time on the ball that we haven't had much of recently.

As Adam.S says, launching high balls into Chris Moore probably wasn't the best of ideas. We have been guilty of that over recent months, but without having an aerial ball winner up top. However, with Leon Antoine making his first start in a long while tonight, this was now a viable option for us and created our second goal.

A very nervy last 15 mins when you did everything but score, but we weathered the storm well with some committed defending anf goalkeeping.

Well put. Nothing more to add really.

I think it comes down to why we do poorly when Joe and Billy play together. Both like to push up tight onto the opposition back 4 meaning that there is no space to play the ball into. Neither of them tend to drop off in the way Bradley (or Burbs for that matter) do, and our central midfielders don't have the pace to get past their opposite numbers so there is always a big gap between midfield and forwards meaning we have to "go long" to get the ball to our strikers.

Well, we were pretty poor, playing catch up, although we did have our moments. Thought Ashley was tremendous again, never stops and if we had another 10 like him we would be unbeatable.

I question a few of our tactics and personnel in some areas:-

1 Why let 2 excellent keepers out on loan after acquiring Tony Tucker who is really no better than them ( and was pretty poor last night)

2 Why persist with BWG in the middle where he is clearly not comfortable, most fans seem to agree he is at his best wide right.

3 Why not even try a switch with Steven Ferguson to the middle (he scored a hattrick there preseason) and IMO he is nowhere near as effective attacking and passing players from wide as Bradley is.

4 our central midfield is the root of our problems. Because we don't have anybody who can pass the ball around and hold it up a bit we seem to have adopted a high ball hoof from defence which rebounds back from our forwards who never get a chance to run on to a ball.

Despita all this we can still win some silverware this year so keep it going lads and get those tactics worked out

I really thought we would have banished the Park Lane fiasco last night but obvioulsy not, it was just as bad. Canvey kept the ball on the floor and we were content to put hopeful high balls over the back. It hurts to say, but Canvey wanted it more than us.

Strange...I and others are of the opinion that Joe and Billy play well together. Last season goal tally suggests that Bradley is a much better winger but hey...short memories and all that.

I am struggling to see the comparison between Bradley and Burbs, there Simon. Two different styles of player, one tall with an ariel presence, the other a fast and tricky player. I am looking at both in their best light here...but hey, what do I know?

About the game? Well, firstly Canvey deserved the win. As much as it hurts, I don't think anyone can deny that. In my opinion, if you put both squad's of players next to each other, I think we have the better team but the problem with yesterday was that some key players went missing at times. It happens. It's no excuse but what is done is done, lets move on.
