Imagine a Brand-New Non League Football Club started up from scratch. Where should it be? How would you set it up? Who would set it up? How would you fund it? Who would own it? How much involvement would owners have in the Football Club? Want promises made to be promises kept? Did you believe that given the right people, an Internet run Football Club could succeed?

Southill Alexander Football Club is the idea born on FreeMyFC, its name was chosen by debate and popular consensus, its team colours, badge and ethos all owned jointly.

An entirely self-appointed Board of Directors decided to fill in the gaps, now they are nearly ready to share the infrastructure they have put in place for those interested to join them in owning their own club - one which will start playing in the 2009/2010 season. SAFC's Board of Directors have agreed a groundshare with Biggleswade Town FC and Southill Alexander have applied to join the Spartan South Midland Football League. We hope to be accepted into Division One and are waiting to hear whether the application will be successful following the League's Management Committee meeting in mid-May.

Southill Alexander will be a unique model, based partly on a traditional Non-League Football Club, part-funded by sponsorship, part-funded by owners with a real shareholding and part-funded by a Club Website membership. The Club's Directors will manage the day-to-day responsibilities and financial management of the basic infrastructure of running the club, fulfilling its commitment and obligations to Biggleswade Town, the League and its players, whilst taking advice and sharing some of the initial decision-making. Club Website members will control their own funds and direct the development of the club, website and promotion of the club and membership, assisted by the Board. Picture it as two circles overlapping and shareholders increasing control as time goes on. We all know that trust is a commodity that will only prove itself when promises are kept.

Southill Alexander needs a comparatively small amount of shareholders and members compared to other projects that have offered as much but delivered less. During Year One a maximum of One Thousand Shares will go on offer and will be limited to a specific number per person but no matter what your shareholding, owners will all have an equal vote. The lifetime minimum of ownership of one share will entitle owners to take up Club Website Membership, set at a yearly subscription.

At the risk of sounding negative......

Another club, another groundshare. Whatever happened to having your own ground?? And owners getting involved??

Owners will however get a very high level of interaction and involvement with Steve Foster, who commits to Manager Briefings comprising;-

Match Reports

Upcoming game Opposition Briefing

Player Training & Fitness Reports

Weekly Diary & Blog

Whats that all about??

All gonna end in tears if you ask me. And what league will you be playing in should the SSMFL turn you down?

Apart from the above, I wish everyone involved good luck! : )
