First the bad news: Andy has confirmed that Jimmy Jackson has signed for Dagenham for next season.

Jamie Turner has also decided that his future lies elsewhere.

The better news is that Matt Lee, Justin Skinner, Paul Sturgess and Tostao Kwashi have all committed themselves to the club for next season.

I'm devastated. This is going to take some time to sink in. The Fleet and Jacko have been synonymous for years! I can understand J.Turner leaving. He is too good a 'keeper not to be playing regular 1st team football, but all clubs need good cover although this is often unfair to the reserve. It is going to be a hard task to replace someone as committed as Jimmy in the team.Best wishes though. Glad to see that some are staying! Mark is obviously the key player that we await news about now.

Erm..., Jesus, I don't know what to think. Jacko leaving Fleet is like Fergie leaving Man U. It's not so much his position in midfield that we'll miss, I think, as the sense of loyalty and determination he embodied in a Fleet shirt. I think the new 'Mr Northfleet' can only be Francis now!

On the playing front, while I agree with Dave we shouldn't panic early, the loss of Burton, Jacko, Che, Wilko and Turner (and maybe Benno) is a hefty backbone of the squad wiped out. I hope that Andy has a few players lined up!!

This is totally devastating and I never thought he would ever leave the Fleet. frown.gif As for the other contract-signers, I would have let them all go if it meant that Jacko was staying. frown.gif I just hope that he get a decent game up at Dagenham, otherwise he could end up flying from club to club without many games. frown.gif

I would say that this is the worst news I have heard from the Fleet since Steve Portway had to leave back in the mists of time.

The questions remaining now are:

1) Who will be our captain for next season?confused.gif

2)Which teams will be getting relegated with us next year? frown.gif

Oh dear...i feel very pesimistic !!! We dont only have to think about Benno leaving, the Fridge can also up and leave 2. Lets hope only one goes down next year and Accrington or Tamworth are worse than us !! Seriously, this is terrible news but the club has themselves to blame for getting into the situation where most of the team were out of contract. Dave, out of interest, where there any of last seasons first team squad who werent out of contract ??

Good luck Jacko, u are a legend at the Fleet which actually makes it even harder to take and understand. Also good luck Jamie, u were outstanding during our championship season.

Im devastated. I look forward to hearing about our new signings from Cray Wanderers and Ramsgate next week.

We have been here before: Liam Hatch, Jimmy Strouts, Louie Evans and Kevin Budge all had contracts into this season.

Any before anyone asks <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> None of the other players would sign contracts beyond the end of last season.

As for the new signings BOTH have previously played in the Conference, Robin Trott with Stevenage and Welling and Anthony Hogg with Dover. So they are not exactly untested at this level.

Very sad to see Jacko go and a little disappointed in him to be honest.

Jacko's always been class and a few years ago I wouldn't have blamed him for leaving as the Club was going nowhere.

However, over the last few years the Club has began realising its potential - as reflected by the increase in support, the fans vocal support for the players - and the potential the Ebbsfleet development brings to the area.

As a local lad Jackson must recognise all this - and the fact the Club cannot simply replace players of his calibre.

I guess it was just a dream but if the Ebbsfleet development took off in a big way - I had visions of Jimmy Jackson captaining us into the Football League in the near future.

It would have been just reward for his years of service.

I guess time waits for no man.

No hard feelings Jacko - thanks for the memories!

Like everyone - very disappointed to see the news - Jacko always had such passion for the club and I really thought that he would be persuaded to stay -the extra money must have been significant, given that he will, no doubt, be paying someone to tend his farm for him, if he's one of those going full time.

It will always be hard to compete with many of the "bigger" clubs on the money front - Daggers had been suggesting on their message boardsthat they could afford to go full time for 2 seasons, based on the money thay have made from their cup runs in recent seasons - one of the points mentioned was that it was worth doing, as the potential benefits outweighed the costs, if League status was attained (I think for a start, mention was made of the extra money available to develop your ground, which was significant, certainly in respect of Doncaster this year)

We desperately need to have 2 or 3 really good seasons in the FA Cup - did that defeat in last years competition against Margate cost us Jimmy's services, potentially?? (I doubt it, given that mention was made previously of a £60000 loss last year, and 1 victory would have merely reduced that by £20000 - and I also suspect that the club would have been determined to maintain their pay structures)

Still - whilst we are all disappointed, Andy's judgement of players capabilities is generally sound, and as things stand, its simply a case of Burton out, Trott in, and Jacko out, Hogg in. Potentially one replacement can prove better than the outgoing player, and, whilst at present, many supporters will consider Jacko a hard act to follow, who knows what Hogg's capabilities are??

There are probably 3 or 4 players whose decisions are still awaited - the aforementioned Bentley & Duku, and alongside those 2, Owen and Pennock

At the end of the day, whilst I , like all supporters of the club, want to see it move forward, it is important that, as the club have said before, it is done on a financially sound basis

It seems pretty clear that partr time clubs will struggle to beat full time clubs over the course of a season, but again, is it going to remain realistic for full time clubs to remain that way in years to come - given the reduction in TV revenue which has already happened, and potential future reductions in cup money, etc, it is not inconceivable that the wheel swings full circle and many clubs have to revert to part time, possibly even in the lower Nationwide leagues.

If that happens, financially sound clubs that have remained part time, may well find themselves in the ascendancy.

Whilst a question has been raised over how a club such as Farnborough can take Nick Burton from us, I suspect that a major factor in that decision will have been the travelling for Nick, from his Berkshire home - it must be a real pain driving round the M25 every week, on 2 or 3 occasions, for matches and training. Lets face it, most of us would accept a "local" job if it were offered, subject to money being even reasonable (how much was he spending on petrol every week - Farnborough would only have needed to offer the same money as we were paying, and he would be much better off)

Lets not get despondent though and/or start aiming criticisms at Andy and the club over player losses - its a fact of life that it happens. We can still achieve something this coming season, whoever we have playing for us - if we can get a settled team and avoid injuries, we CAN do it.

UP THE FLEET!!

Along with everyone else I feel devastated that Jimmy has gone. The two seemed synonymous, Jimmy Jackson is Gravesend & Northfleet Football Club and Gravesend & Northfleet Football Club is Jimmy Jackson. He didn't have the most outstanding season last year, there were other team members who stood out a lot more, but he always gave it 100%.

However, we only know some of the facts. Dagenham were supposedly looking at him before the end of last season. They were runners-up to promotion, AGAIN this season. And are already favourites to go up next season. They allegedly offered him £200 p/w more than he was getting. They are closer to being a full-time League club than we ever have been. These factors alone would be enough to persuade anyone in their right mind what decision to make.

Remember one thing above everything else, Jimmy is a football player first and was a Gravesend player second. Some may say, what about loyalty, but his stats speak for themselves:- 441 League and Cup games and 6 for each as a sub. Not many players, pro or amateur have figures like that for just one club.

All the best Jim to a gentleman of the beautiful game. See you next season.

Devastating news, The Fleet without Jimmy Jackson, but not suprising. No disrespect to our other players but Jim always gave his all when playing and was the heart and soul of the team. A thoroughly likeable lad and always had time to talk with the supporters. I am sure he would have thought long and hard and the decision could not have been at all easy for him.

Jim if you read this page all the best for the future and I expect to see you in the league within the year.

Very sorry to see Jimmy go. I'm sure he had to think long and hard about it - but at the end of the day, every player wants to play at the highest level and realistically Dagenham have a much better chance to playing in Div 3 than we do (at least in the next 4/5 years).

If Jacko had to sign for anyone else, I'm glad it was D&R.

If jimmy is playing cricket for Cobham v Luddesdowne on 26th July I'll buy him a pint in the [****!!****] Inn to show there are no hard feelings.

Good luck, Jim.

Blimey, first they chuck out one of the Youth sides and then it's going tits up with the Senior side. Perhaps there's an omen, what with Jacko being a 'local' lad and all that.

Good Luck Jimmy and thanks for your loyal services, both on the field and in the community.
