Canvey Island 1-2 Chelmsford City

A good game all round, plenty of goalmouth action for both sides and Chelmsford had just that bit more quality to twice see it into the back of the net.

Canvey scored from a Craig Davidson penalty after James Rowe was fouled by Craig Holloway. Rowe was quality all game and looks to be a great signing if he remains fit.

Chelmsford had Mark Haines stretchered off during the first half as did Canvey have Danny Kerrigan meet the same fate just beforehand. Neither looked too seriously hurt and there was nothing malicious in either event, but as it' was a friendly you can understand the precautions taken.

Plenty of familiar faces at the Brockwell Stadium, some of whom will return tomorrow for the Legends match.

Canvey lined up:

1. James Russell

2. Andrew West

3. Danny Kerrigan

4. Richard Halle

5. Ben Patten

6. Craig Davidson

7. Ian Luck

8. Ryan Edgar

9. Jay Curran

10. James Rowe

11. Greg Cohen

SUBS: Stuart Batch, Reiss Noel, Nick Reynolds, Leon Gordon, Richard Bastin, Gabriel Fanibuyan, Ricky Allen, Lewis Edwards.

Chelmsford probably edged the game but we gave them a tough contest.

Was impressed again with Rowe, who was very lively up front.

Russell had a good game, making three or four fine saves.

Reading the Chelmsford forum, their view is that their performance against us was one of the best this pre-season.

Now considering I thought we held our own pretty well against them for the majority of the game, their performance being great reflects our performance being equally positive - This is extremely pleasing going into the new season. If we can keep that momentum week in, week out, the season ahead looks promising.
