Ty Gooden

Recommended Posts

Sad to see that Ty Gooden has had to quit Gillingham due to a long standing ankle injury. I wonder whether he would still be able to play in the Conference a la Mr Pennock. With our present Gillingham connections this would seem to be a ideal signing, and we would certainly benefit from his vast Football League experience.

According to an article on the Gills web site he is quoted as saying

Quote:

a few non-league clubs have been in contact although he's yet to make a decision on his future.

He said: " I still don't know exactly what to do. I feel generally fit and I might become a personal trainer as I have a background in sport and am interested in nutrition".

Hasnt he agreed to play for us on a game by game basis because of his knee, but ANdy said he couldnt give him a contract and maybe Lovell can? . WE got that Trott geezer and fridge. want to see the new players in action, but im gonna to miss all pre seasoners part from the Bishops Stortford one I think.

I doubt it very much, there are a lot more midweek matches at that level and we know that Adrian is physically unable to play twice a week.

Besides he is an honourable man and has said that he is happy to play for us on a match by match basis.

Going back to the original topic, our friends from Canvey seem to think that Ty Gooden going there is a done deal.

If we were in for him, thats another player who has fallen through the net this summer...Although he probably would have been an asset we'd already signed Hogg to play in that position and also have Skins or Sturgess to cover...Come on Andy can we have a signing this week please !

I'm sure Gooden is a great catch for any non-league club but

he is turning the wrong side of 30 and with young talent from the PASE side like Robbie Grace - they must be given a chance to show what they can do.

The Conference is a big step up but if you don't give them a chance - even if its only 15 minutes towards the end of a game how do you know what they can do?

If the Club can't compete financially with the Dagenham's etc who will nick our best players every season frown.gif then is there not some scope for giving the better PASE lads/or young YTS players released from Pro clubs a full-time contract and have them train everyday - 40 hours a week coached by Andy Ford/Adrian Pennock?

Its all about closing the gap with the full-time teams in terms of fitness etc. - 5/6 full time youngsters blended with another 5/6 experienced non-league pro's might help the club achieve this. Its just a thought and probably wouldn't cost the earth.

Going back to the original topic (sorry) I'm sure there are plenty of free agents that will be given a trial in the pre-season friendlies so we might get a surprise or two there!

Without wanting to open up old wounds but producing players good enough to play in the conference from PASE level is a tall order. So far without being overly critical we've only been able to find PASE players whose level seems to be more at Dr. Martens Southern level. Obviously i hope this will change and one gem will come through but as has been debated many times before we're not left with the cream of the crop when we get our yearly intake of PASE lads.

I agree with Jim, if we are going to find another Jacko it will probably be from the same source as the last Jacko.

We need to keep our eyes open for the players that don't quite make it at Charlton or Gillingham.

There's still plenty of time to find a couple of players before the 9th of August and failing that look at the number of good quality players we had on loan last season.

I'm sure that by the time the league starts we will have a team good enough to improve on last years performance.
