Ok... so a few of us are reluctant to sit on a coach for 7 hours each way and Ian's idea of of a plane looks waaay too expensive.

Does anyone fancy looking at Driving/train on the Friday, staying in a cheap B&B or Motel with....and here's the good bit - plenty of beers and curry in the evening!

Sorry Greggors, unless you get injured tomorrow, we cant include you.

Hold on a mo...
I didn't suggest the plane, I was meerly following up on others suggestions.
I am sorry the cost is so high, but if we had 100 flying then the price would be half the quoted prices, but then would we saell 100 places - I doubt it.

If you book the train far enough in advance the price is reasonably cheap. I have booked first class and it is only £50 - I think there are special rates if you book 7 days in advance.
Train times for those who need them are:
Euston to Wigan 9.45am arrives at 13.17pm
Wigan to euston either at 17.30 or 18.30

There's a group of us driving up on Saturday morning. Early start, full English on the motorway and arrive in time for a few pints before the game.
Watch Canvey pull off the biggest shock since Port Vale (I can dream) and then into town to watch Ian get rat-arsed before a Ruby and a good night's kip in the local Travel Inn.
Leisurely drive home on Sunday morning, just in time for Mrs Merv to serve up a late Sunday roast with a bottle of Beaujolais.
It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it!
Merv

Possible Pub for Pre-match scoops at the Wigan game. (Recommended by a matey who lives there).
It's called the Swan and Railway, in Wallgate opposite Wigan North Western

station. If you have plenty of time and are feeling more adventurous, the

John Bull is also a good pub but much harder to find. Walk up the hill

towards the centre from WNW station, keep walking straight on

(pedestrianised) and it's down a side alley on your right after about 500

yards. Or ask a local.

Just past that go up a side alley called "The Weind" The JB is up there. If you get lost ask for "The Weind"
About 2/3 mins walk from the station.
[ 10 November 2001: This message was edited by: KG Wigan Latic ]

If you catch the train to find the JJB Stadium either catch the bus outside the station ask for "The Saddle Junction". Only 2-3 stops from the Station.
Or walk turning left crossing the road at some point and keep going past Wigan Pier till you see an Asda store on your right (About 5-10mins walk). Turn right there and the JJB is at the back of that store.
Just keep following the dual carraigeway straight forward turning left out of the station and you shouldn't get lost .
