Braintree Game

Recommended Posts

Even though we got the three point I don't think that was a very good performance. We didn't use JK as well as we usually do, which is a shame as he is undoubtably one of our best assets. Saying that, Duffy and Greggors played blinders.

I think you can only be referring to the second half; the first was terrific. Having said that, how would you have come out after the break? You're 3-1 up and you've got Wigan next Saturday. I reckon Canvey got a bit of scare but had Gregory's header gone in instead of hitting the crossbar, they might well have gone on to score more.
Don't forget, we weren't playing the Braintree of old. This is a side who are riding high (like we did when we came up into the premiere) and they have been in the top 5 for most of the season.
Let's get rid of Sutton on Tuesday and concentrate on the BIG one next Saturday. Do you realise, there are one or two fans not going? Difficult to comprehend, I know, but it's true frown.gif" border="0
Merv

I would have thought that even the most devout Canvey supporter would accept that having been gifted your second and third goals yesterday, a draw would have been a fairer reflection of the game. Playing in all white, some of of our players could not get out of the habit of passing to a yellow and blue player which no doubt made your task easier. Still as all the other results went your way yesterday, I amagine you will now go on to gain Conference football next season, but your ground..........uuugh

we had a good first half and braintree are a good team..we took to long getting the ball forward and allowed them to regroup..once they have men behind the ball they are impressive and you can see why they are unbeaten at home..the second half i didnt enjoy as it seemed we couldnt get a foot on the ball, but it was probably not that bad and just nerves making me think it was.. greggors hit the bar n boylan was unlucky ( he is looking class at the moent) the 'IRON' had a couple of good chances as well and i can see how any iron fans feel a point apiece would be fair..but i think with our late first half pressure we just desrved it... i would have been happy with 4 points from the last 2 games so cant argue with 6...gravesend are looking formidable though and another 6 pointer rears it ugly head..lets get a job done at sutton and then enjoy this cup game!!!!
[ 11 November 2001: This message was edited by: CANV ]

The game was very tight. I thought it was going to be settled by one goal then low and behold 4 went in. I thought Dicksy done enough and we have got to give him half a dozen games before we judge him. Saying that, I hope Chenners is given his chance against Wigan. If they know they are playing against Dicksy, it might add extra fire to their bellies. We passed the ball around very well, but at the end of the day, it was the persistence of Duffy who got us the second and third goals. Our football was good to watch but there could of been more direct attacks on goal. We have all seen it so many times before where you can have most of the possesion, but get caught out at the back which we nearly did on a number of occasions and the final whistle was a relief. My concern for the Wigan game is that we do get opened up at the back on occasions. The pace of the game against Wigan, like Port Vale, will be very quick. We have got to be so tight at the back for this one then take our chances which we know we can.

i'd like to see tilson and stimmo (anyone know the latest on suspensions and injuries?) back in midfield..they provide so much cover in front of the 3 central defenders by being able to read the game so well..greggors up front with any one of the other strikers i favour a cobby start with boylan on sometime in the second half..miller didnt shine on saturday but that is just a reflection on how good a footballer he has become, we expect something special everytime he gets the ball, he put in some great tackles....

i still favour wardy bodders and chenners across the back.. dicks will be a great addition if he is prepared to put in the fitness work...especially as the season moves into its second half and squad strength comes to the fore....

also why did everyone in the canvey defence seem to have the hump with buzz? it wasnt his best performance, but recently he has played really well
