How do you want to travel to Burnley

Hi,
I would like to gauge the views of supporters as to how they would like to travel to Turf Moor.
We will of course be taking supporters coaches up, but if we ran executive coaches, i.e. ones with a hostess service, with breakfast, tea & coffee & high tea being served during the journey, would people be interested? Obviously the cost would be higher than normal coaches.
Or perhaps a train from Benfleet to Burnley.
I am speaking out loud here, but several people have approached me, both in person, and via email to say that they are not looking forward to the usual coach journey, but still want to go, and support the team.
I will set up a method on the website for booking seats, with perhaps credit card payment via the club online shop.
Please let me know, what you would prefer to do, to give us an idea of the take up of either ordinary suppoters coaches, luxury coaches or a chartered train.
I will try to get some prices tomorrow (Tue)
Regards,
Ian C. HI ALL,

AS A "HARDENED COMMUTER" OF THE C2C LINE, A SERVICE THAT I AND 1000'S OF OTHER CITY WORKERS FROM THE ESSEX COASTLINE BATTLE WITH 5 DAYS A WEEK, 52 WEEKS A YEAR, I FEEL IT MIGHT NOT BE A GOOD IDEA TO TRAVEL BY TRAIN AS THE SERVICE IS S**T!! UNLESS WE COULD GET A GIANT TV SCREEN PUT UP NEAR UPMINSTER BECUASE YOU CAN GUARENTEE WE WILL END UP WATCHING THE GAME FROM THE SIDING'S WHILST C2C SPEND THE NEXT 5 HOURS CLEARING A LEAF ON THE LINE!! ALSO YOU OFTEN GET SAME OLD EXCUSE PEDDALED OUT WEEKENDS LIKE "URGENT ENGINEERING WORKS, SO PLEASE USE A BUS BETWEEN BENFLEET AND BARKING" (IM ASSUMING THE GAME IS SAT/SUN?)

HOPE THIS HELPS. SCOOT BEAUMONT (ON MY LAP TOP,STILL STUCK OUTSIDE LAINDON STATION)

I think what Ian means is that you can charter a dedicated train, which will go direct to your destination via a lot of points changes on the rail infrastructure - so you get on at Benfleet or maybe another specified station along the way, and you don't get off until you reach Burnley.
Agreed, it will be dear, and there's no guarantee that you won't encounter the odd rogue leaf or two on the line, but you don't have to get off at Fenchurch Street and walk to Bank etc...
Will be interested to see the costs (and the price list for the buffet car!)

Hi Scoot,
It is as Wilf said, to hire a train that took us to Burnley non stop.
As one of my biggest clients also runs the Spurs official travel club, they are used to arranging trains and coaches - it would be nice to compare prices - but as I said earlier I am only suggesting this as a direct response to comments made by several fans - and I would like to get as many Canvey fans to Burnley as possible.
I might even consider putting on my First Hosting directors hat, and subsidise the cost for fans - anything for a bit of publicity ;-)
BTW - Scoot, please turn off the CAPS LOCK - it is rude to SHOUT!!

The train sounds like a good and convenient idea but what scoot is saying maybe right. The chances are that you will miss the game completely if you take the train. It is so unreliable and there are a whole host of things that could go wrong. There are so many excuses that they come out with for delays and cancellations. It is difficult most days just arriving on time at Fenchurch street. As this would be a one off, you can also expect the train company not to be geared up for it. You can look into a charter but I will not be risking it. I'd rather travel in the car and then at least it's in my own hands if I get there or not.

I don't at this stage want to commit myself to coach travel but I would indeed be interested in knowing how much an exec seat would cost. My immediate thoughts are to stay over on the Saturday but need to weigh up the options!!
[ 11 December 2001: This message was edited by: vic ]

Just taken the plunge and booked the Friday and Saturdays nights Burnley Accomodation at The SparrowHawk Hotel, as recommended by our Burnley chums. Website looked ok. B&B Double room at £53 per night - not bad. I'll be taking the Jamjar up there though, as I am also a pessimistic C2C commuter.

If we hired a train, it would cost around £40 per head. The normal cost on scheduled trains would be £45.50. I would be prepared as First Hosting to subsidise the cost down to £30 per head, if people are interested.
It would depart Benfleet, and arrive in Burnley non stop. It would not go into Fenchurch Street, and believe it or not the railways are well geared up to chartered trains.
An executive coach would cost a similar price, plus any extras on top.
With a train it would be possible say for a group to hire a complete carrage to themselves.
There would probably also be a first class carriage with meals included.
[ 11 December 2001: This message was edited by: Ian CIFC ]

morning gent's

im begining to see the advantages of a train to burnley especially at those prices,im assuming any meals consumed on the train are at an extra cost? could we bring our own beverages?

i spoke last night to a few fellow canvey fan's who all went to wigan and we all agreed that the coach last time was suitable however this time could we have 1 with a toilet onboard as we were all bursting for a leak every 10 minutes!! there is a solution to this, dont drink , but you try telling that to the boy's and you wouldn't get a nice response...

ian the train sounds like a great idea but i`m just wondering how many people need to sign up to make it happen. myself and a few friends are looking into hiring a minibus but would rather go on the train if it was an option. do we need say 4/5 hundred supporters or are we talking more?

There's a rumour, and it's only a rumour, that Ian is organising something special in the First Class (or should that be First Hosting) carriages with topless bar staff serving free bubbly.
Sounds bloody good to me. I'll have two tickets please.
Merv CIFC
