Pre-Season

Recommended Posts

I reckon it was a good pre-season, with positives to take from every game. The Hull game was always going to be tricky as it was the first time the team had played together in a match. However, to come out with a 1-0 defeat was respectable, and chances were being created for us which I believe would have been taken if the match had been later in the season.

As for the Dagenham match, the 3-0 scoreline didn't do us justice. We played some great football at times, and how we didn't score is beyond me.

Then there was the Southend game! This will stay long in the memory, as friendlies don't get much more competitive. This match showed how resolute this Canvey team can be, and the hard work payed off with a great win!

Gillingham gave us a deserved beating with our defence looking terrible. However, had we taken our chances we could have scored at least 4, as crazy as it seems to say against a near full strength Div 1 team.

Gravesend proved how when we do take our chances how lethal we can be, and Ollie and Grergors proved this by killing the game after 8 minutes!

Slough was an easy game, a much different prospect than the FA Cup game seasons ago. Good to see Lee Boylan get his first goal, also reassuring to know that we have another free-kick taker for when Prothers is injured.

Yesterday at Great Wakering completed a hatrick of scoring 4 goals in a game, hopefully we can continue tis scoring spell into the league. As for Ollie Berquez, I would start him against Basingstoke as he is looking very sharp.

Dare I say it, but should Boylan be on the bench for Saturday's opener for Berquez? Ollie has been sharp against Gravesend, Slough & GWR. Sharper than Boylan I'm afraid. But then again if I remember rightly, Boylan lost his place at the beginning of last season to Bertie Brayley, so maybe he'll rise to the challenge of gaining his place back...Or am I talking [****!!****] again?!

My Starting Line-up for Saturday:

______________Potter

__Smith - Chenery - Cowan - Crow

Kennedy - Midgley - Minton - Gooden

__________Berquez

_________________Boylan

SUBS:

Theobald (if he signs)

I feel that the playing method used when Boylan is up front isn't productive for him ie, it appears that he is given a lone striker roll with his nearest partner/s too far off to assist, Boylans work rate is high but for very little returns in that sort of situation. Where-as Ollie is played along with Neil Greggory both combining a close pairing. I would like to see what a Boylan and Berquez pairing would create with our current set of players.

Why don't we all put them in big plastic balls and see who's the better team then? I mean if the Humans could do it on 'Gladiators' then why can't we go back to our roots and do the same as our primitive pets?

Come on you Marsh Rats!!!!!

I read in the local yesterday how the youth/reserves were so short of players because a number of them were in the 1st team! It explained that a couple of friendlies were cancelled as a result of this.

I thought it was going to be an ad to attract a few players to help them out!
