CLUBS NICKNAMES

Recommended Posts

i think clubs should look deeper into their history to find nicknames, rather than make one up from their name or badge design. I think they should b more interesting.

Good point Matthew!

(climbs back onto chair)

We could be The Martyrs though somebody else already has that nickname, can't think who at the moment. Other possibilities: The Romans... er, that's it I think may add some more later...

Banbury Town's nickname is The Gay Puritans. I kid you not! Though I think they may have dropped the Gay part recently. That's political correctness for you...

One of the League Of Wales teams nicknames is The Black Dragons! Quality!

And I'm definitely not ashamed of the unoriginal by highly appropriate E's.

The Shamen were obviously fans of Enfield....

with a bit of luck we might get the chance to put that to the test next year.......

mind you...if we play like we did last night for the next six games we'll be rubbing glasses with the dog and duck....

well....we're second and its in our own hands....just

six left to go and 12 more points will probably do it.....but...we all know the score...we'll take nothing for granted and keep going...there'll be a few twists and turns yet....look at the table....2,3,4,5 are all still in it for that second spot......we'll see....

maybe our 'patron saint' will look down upon us favourably.....!

Merthyr Tydfil can't claim England's first Christian martyr though, can they!?

Not totally convinced you can either, as England did not exist at the time of Alban's death.

Further, you should perhaps be more specific and claim the land later to be known as England's first known Christian martyr.

Sorry, but I do like an academic quibble.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the Borough of Enfield have two E's - Enfield and Edmonton - before Edmonton FC dissappeared in the mid 1970's.

Picking original nicknames was obviously not on the agenda (ETFC = ET's or Townies or Towners).

And aren't Brimsdown Rovers called 'The Rovers'?

I take it Cockfosters are either Cocks or Fosters.

Regards

Peter (Nickname Pete)
