GCSE results!

Recommended Posts

I would be extremely happy with that Fleet Boy!! If those grades had been offered to me last Summer I would've snapped them up.

How ironic that last Thursday the Goverment says that the A-Level pass rate has risen when almost everyone I know failed and yesterday they said the GCSE pass rates fell when Fleet Boy pulls those grades out of the bag!!

I got my D in graphics technology,we didn't have a teacher for the first year of the course(just cover teachers) so we didn't do any work,in the 2nd year we had a teacher but he just wasn't up to standard and couldn't control us,looking back on it i'm sure most of us would have tried harder in the subject now...

I got my a* in ict!I got an a for german which i was very pleased with seeing as i'm very poor at it,i got lucky i guess!

In graphics technology we were given a task(mine was to design a model building for a scalextric set),you then have to go through zillions of things before you finally make the product(out of cardboard..),you have to research existing products, identify your target users,do questionaires, intial ideas, final ideas, orthographic projection drawings, isometric drawings etc etc. As you can imagine this is quite hard to do without a teacher!

I got my G in Graphics for exactly the same reason!! For the first year I had one of the Deputy Heads who was more concerned about sending us to sleep and letting us do all the work at home than teach us anything. Then in the second year I had some stupid hag from Romania who's english was very poor and immune system even worse!!!

A little word of advice Fleet Boy, if you go to College to do A-Levels rather than a GNVQ, BND, AVCE or whatever. If you take ICT there and it's the same syllabus as I took last year - Make sure you concentrate on the Coursework more than anything else!!

With the A-Levels you'll do 4/5 AS subjects and if you choose ICT, it's 99% garenteed that, that subject will take up most of your time. The coursework alone which I think is something like 60% of your final grade will take you at least 1/3 of your first year to do, I kid you not!!!

I think I've mentioned on here before that in my ICT class one of the other students done over 300+ pages for his project and only got an E at the end of it all, (inc. the final two exams). So ICT is a very time consuming subject at College - Don't want to put you off or anything of course!

Hmm Geography & History, well if I remember correctly, you won't have any Coursework in those two subjects during your first year, so you will have time to concentrate on the ICT. The Humnanities subjects, (Geography, History & Religious Studies) are becoming very popular nowadays! Wise move their Fleet Boy and a good variety too!

I know things have changed what with AS Levels and the likes but my Geography A Level was half good half awful. The awful bit included the first few months of the course covering soils. Pretty damn hard to make interesting, and I had a useless NQT teaching me

Yeah soils and erosion is all in the first year, I know the Geography & my Biology classes at College went on a field trip to Epping Forest to study the soil and plant-life there. It was a day out of College so it wasn't all bad, or so I was told.

History is quite fun, but my College syllabus doesn't cover my strong unit - The World Wars. I think it does do Al Capone though.
