Ok all though there were some bad decisions made by the ref it wasn't him that lost the game for us.
We have to face it that last night we did not play well at all and lacked it in Midfield, (tired legs possibly?), I don't normaly like to quibble about our players as they have done us so proud but Bennet, Sheesh man! he was bad at Burnley,(in my opnion), and again last night.
And what of Vaughny? I was certain that after the Burnley game that he would have been started last night if nothing else but to give Lee and Paul a break. I'm worried that if he don't start playing regular footy soon that we will loose him, bad news for Canvey in view.
I also felt that the game could have started later to wait for the crowd to have got in, I made a comment to the guy at he gate as the game was just starting when I was coming through and there were at least another 100 or so fans behind me and all he said was, it ain't my ruddy fault, I never even said it was so why I got that reply mistified me a touch, still!!
I think Stimmo should also appeal to the FA about his red card as it could have been put down to bad lighting.
Still not taking anything away from G&N they were very very good last night and I'm glad the game did go ahead I'd wanna see Canvey win the league but not with replays due to our bad flood lighting saga.
Hey Jeff how about spending a bit of that dosh you got from The FA cup run on some better flood lighting??
One last thing, what happened to all the noise from Canvey Fans last night, this was a home game for christ sake, you are allowed to shout come on Canvey every now and again.

Martin O should be ashamed of himself for suggesting the injured Gravesend player (injured by a Canvey player) should sue the referee. Its a***holes like him who have stopped kids being allowed to play football in schools because the teachers fear being sued if the kids have an accident !!!!! images/icons/mad.gif" border="0 images/icons/mad.gif" border="0 images/icons/mad.gif" border="0 images/icons/mad.gif" border="0 images/icons/mad.gif" border="0

Apparently, the ref said on the radio this morning that he carried on because of potential crowd trouble. Does this mean he would of abandoned the game if there were different circumstances?

i dont think he should have.. the crowd was bigger than expected (much bigger) as was shown by the traffic problems and the queue to get in.. if it was known it was gonna be that big it probabbly would have been segregated, not because of any trouble but that many people trying to change ends could cause problems at half time. its pretty narrow behind the dug outs and the stand on the other side...
it would have been a travesty to call the game off then, i want to see canvey promoted as much as the rest of us but not under those kind of circumstances... if the ref was worried about crowd trouble then he may have had a point, a lot of people hanging around in the gloom and a traffic jam to get away from the ground.. wether he would have made the same decision if there were 500 people there is irrelavent, there was 2,000 plus there....
anyway thats my view, its done now and the fleet have 3 well earned points which has thrown the season wide open, lets look forward to getting back to winning ways and getting a few more crowds in like that!!!

Blue boy you are obviously talking out of YOURS!!
I was talking about semi-pro footballers playing under floodlights (or not as the case may be!) NOT little schoolboys taking P.E. on the school field during the day!! images/icons/shocked.gif" border="0 images/icons/shocked.gif" border="0 images/icons/shocked.gif" border="0

By the way the player soon got up and ran off after the Canvey player got sent off!
I take it you weren't there !

Anyone suggesting that the FA would listen to an appeal against a sending off based on "Poor Lighting" must be daft - the ref had a perfectly good view of the incident and the challenge was very late - it deserved a Red Card in any game.
A couple of your other players were lucky to stay on the pitch in that 15 minute period as well - 2 footed challenges were coming from everywhere it seemed and it was fortunate no Gravesend player was seriously injured - to suggest that any serious injury could be put down to the poor lighting would be ridiculous.
As has been stated elsewhere, the FA Rules say that a ref must be able to see both ends of the pitch from the halfway line to play a game ( for fog, anyway), so does that mean you would say if there is fog which obscures up to 50% of the pitch from one end of the ground should not proceed as it would be "dangerous" ? If this were the case, the FA Ruling that the ref must be able to see both goals from the Halfway Line would be worthless.
The only thing wrong in that last 15 minutes was the attitude of the Canvey players who clearly didnt want to continue ( as they were losing no doubt), couldnt be bothered to warm up before the game restarted, looked totally apathetic and were more interested in kicking holes in the Gravesend players than in kicking the ball.
I cant believe the size of the crowd would have had anything to do with the refs decision - that should have been irrelevant - what mattered was whether conditions on the pitch merited the game being restarted and there was no problem there as even several Canvey fans have agreed.
I do agree though that it would have been reasonable to have delayed Kick Off by 15 minutes to allow the crowd in - I'm sure many missed the first goal. Mind you, if that had happened we would have had 30 minutes left to play when the lights failed and whether the game would then have finished, might have been thrown more into question ( although the remaining match time should have had nothing to do with the decision either)

If it was ok ,lighting wise, why did he not just play on with 50% floodlights instead of going off and leaving us all standing in the cold wondering what the hell was going to happen?!!
The game was almost won anyway.
