4 nil flattered chester

we looked much better as a team than in recent weeks

it is hard to come back after playing well and letting in two soft goals

i am not down

we will lose games this season

but careless mistakes apart we will progress

and should stay up

remember it is the worst three that go down

up the fleet

does any one know what the attendance was?

Thats the best ive seen the Fleet play this season by far. Trouble is I just never thought for one seconf that Gravesend were ever going to score. Chester were not as good as last season, nor were Gravesend. However as already said, a much better performance. Theres hope yet. The goalkeeper error I believe sealed the match. 4-0 was a ridiculous score.

That was truly awful, at times I suppose that yes we did play OK but that's all. We have to keep up a performance for a whole game and at the moment it seems that Ford can't do that against decent opposition. I know it's hard for him but we are getting worse and worse by game. Pennock for player manager certainly sounds good considering his knowledge of the game but I don't whether he'd want to take over as manager at 32 or whatever he is.

Well...I agree with what you write Carjam. First half hour it was a bright entertaining match with both sides equal. The goal came from an error as did the second as Haworth didnt mark Bolland. 2-0 down at half time and i thought we played well without ever looking likely to score. Second half pretty much the same. Im not downhearted as i thought it was a reasonable performance considering man for man they are a better team than us. Lets give some credit to Chester, they are the best organised team in this league and extremely solid in defence. We couldnt score against their 9 men at home last year and this year was pretty much the same bar the 1 effort from Abbey which he should have scored.

I still feel though that Andy hasnt quite got the balance of the side right. We seem to be weak in midfield which we didnt look like being at the start of the season. Not sure what Gradley gives to the team and Mckimm cost us the injury time goals by giving the ball away. Also not sure what roll Perkins is providing. Obviously Andys got him in there playing the link position but today he was effective in the air without really doing much on the ground. Same came be said for

Haworth who hardly touched the ball for 90 minutes with his feet and DOESNT look like a goalscorer despite his decent workrate...

Its not all doom and gloom and we worked hard but we really need Drury back in the side. We seemed to have no idea once we got the ball in the final 3rd and everyone seemed scared to have a go or run at the defence which is the way you need to break down Chesters defence. Dont agree with the Pennock for manager chants.. What can Adrian Pennock bring as a manager in this league. If you're going to get someone unproven in you might as well go out and get a top flight pro who is retired..Better commercially for the club.

Also on the radio Andy says he's talking to one of his 7 day players but cannot agree terms at the moment.

I thought Shearer, Owen and Pinnock had good games. I wasn't very impressed with Haworth other than his height he didn't seem to have much.

I was surprised to see Matt Lee playing in the middle of the back four but he didn't do too badly.

Chester are a good side and although four nil flattered them they hit the post and O'reilly made some good saves, their keeper made one save.

We played pretty well until the first goal but didn't look like scoring. I don't understand how when we have players like Shearer, Perkins, Haworth and Owen in the side we can be so poor at corners and attacking free kicks.

I thought our first half performance up to when they scored was good. For once we didnt play the long ball and distributed the ball well from the back 4 and actually used the midfield, we were playing football and not hoofball, like in most other games. I stil remain of the opinion that we will do fine and find some very good form.

I agree with a lot of what's been said. At the beginning of each half we started well, with several attempts on goal, we looked as if we could nick a goal early on. The intention was there, but not the finish.

For those of you who weren't at the Farnborough game last Monday, they played exactly the same against us. Farnborough could get into that final third, but didn't have a clue once they were in the box. Today everytime we got in the box, we just hit and hoped. And 'Skins', sorry, but your useless at corners and free-kicks.

One thing I do agree with, that Andy said last Thursday, is our lack of time to increase our fitness. As I've said above, each half we came out 'all guns blazing', so that by the end of the game we were wrecked and it showed. We couldn't keep up with them.

Like it or lump it, we are now on a downward spiral. Get used to it, we won't be out of the bottom five for the rest of the season.

A not so happy red neck!

Dunno about that. There are a couple of injured platers right now that could make a difference. Points will come, we cant really compete with some clubs unless we one day by some miracle become full time. The support wont get much worse than it is right now, as things are likely to get better. The performance today was much improved. More penetration is needed. One interesting point was the lady doing the report for the non-league paper. I chatted to her for most of the second half. She was inpartial and honestly believed that the Fleet shaded much of the game. After all they did have a lot of play. Just no finish. Chester had no trouble finishing.

Just a quick comment, I looked up last years programme dated the 31st August and took a look at the league then, it makes interesting reading.Forest Green were bottom with nil points, second from bottom were Telford with two points, and Halifax were third from bottom with three points.Southport were fifth,Nuneaton were thirteenth and Kettering were eighteenth.Leading the division was Woking with Gravesend in fourteenth position. We all had Forest Green written off last season, it just goes to show it can be done so have faith.

Admittedly, there was some nice play from us today. Some nice passing here and there. But we never looked as if we were gonna score at all. The miss from Abbey was abysmal (I thought he was rubbish overall to be honest).

I thought Chester played poor, which made our loss even worse.

Something definately has to be done. What it is I don't know. I haven't made up my mind about it at all.

True chris,i think one of the reasons we didn't look like scoring was because chester were playing the whole second half with either 9 or 10 men behind the ball which made it very hard for us to break them down, though i do admit our strikers did still look poor,i thought we needed something more upfront AND somebody to sit in the hole and provide oportunities.

Although we lost 4-0 today I don't believe the score reflects the actual game. In the first 30 minutes the teams were very evenly matched however a mistake by O'Reilly changed all that. After we had gone 1 down I don't think we had a chance of coming back, only if remembering last season's game, but poor marking at the corner for the second goal gave us an impossible task.

In the second half we huffed and puffed without really creating anything before Abbey's miss, and yes he did foul the Chester defender. Once we got into the last ten minutes we were going to try and throw the kitchen sink at them which would obviously leave us short at the back and that's exactly how the game finished, 2 extra goals to Chester and us sitting at the bottom of the league.

Where do we go from here.............. I don't believe that sacking Andy, or forcing his resignation is the answer. Today's performance was by far and away the best I have seen this season, I can only see home games, in the first half we passed the ball intelligently and refrained from the long ball game. Today our best players were Shearer, Owen and Pinnock, Macca had a good first half but seemed to fade after half time.

Whilst Haworth is a rugged, hard working centre forward he does not look likely to score, what does Louie need to do to get a game? As mentioned above FGR sacked Nigel Spink and replaced him with Colin Addison which led to their rise up the table............all of you who are calling for Andy's head, where is your equivalent of Colin Addison?

Let's get behind the team and manager and see the Fleet rise above the relegation zone and maintain our Conference status

*********** Abbey was only on the field for 30 minutes Chris. I didnt think he was rubbish at all. How many other players in the whole 90 minutes created an opening like he did. Yes he missed it but id rather have strikers like him in the side who are going to create chances and score eventually. According to the NLP we only had one shot on target. Yes i have criticised the team and the club continuously this season but yesterday wasn't that bad. I have called for a change in manager but at least Andy realises that we're crap and stuff like set pieces are just appalling. The problem again stems back to pre-season. We wasted the whole pre-season trying out players. Players like Craig Wilkins were tied up by Dover before the season ended yet we wasted the period before the end of the season to get players on board and spent the whole summer talking to 100s of players without really having any clue as to who we were going to sign hence every player signing away from us. Andy talks about us having a squad of 20 but is there any value in having 10 players in the squad and paying them wages when they clearly arent good enough. I would think we would be better off having a smaller squad but with better quality players. U can moan abt suspensions and injuries but the quality generally would be better for most of the matches.
Didnt mention it but ill agree with others, thought Shearer and above him Matt Lee were outstanding yesterday despite us losing 4-0.

Until they scored, I felt we were just as good as they were. Our players worked very hard, and Rob Owen put everything he could into that match and I feel very sorry for players like him who have run themselves into the ground to have to take the criticism sometimes very unfairly handed out to them. Unfortunately, we have become the victims of our success. Nobody expected us to win the Ryman's league, we did, well done. With it we have brought in a lot of 'only want to know you when you are doing well' supporters. Let's hope that a large number of them will stay with us, like the 300 - 400 of us have over the past 30 years and then they will really enjoy success when it comes not expect it as of right. Like friends you find out who really are your friends when the tough times come along, so it will be with our supporters. <img src="/images/graemlins/redbanana.gif" alt="" />
