Lack of Natural Defenders

With Chenery's apparent case shingles, no Bods or Dicks & Buzz's suspension who do we put with Wardy at the back today?
Mickey Bennett doesn't deserve to play for us anymore, but he will have to today along with who?
Will we have to change formation to incorporate these problems?
4-4-2 -

There is a lot of what Tanner is about on the field that I am not happy with but in the light of recent performances; given a choice, I would opt for Tanner before Benno at the mo!!

People would also say that Brits hasn't got the speed but again I would prefer him to Benno at the mo!!

Any advance?

I think Benno realises his days at Park Lane are numbered. How the hell he was player of the year at Brighton?
Got to admit that he does always play out of position, (he's a winger) and is a good header of the ball, but still it would help if he headed to a yellow shirt, he was c**p at Burnley, worse on Tuesday, and I'd prefer it if he didn't play.
He's is only in the team today cause four of our defenders are out.
Still gain promotion and he'll be gone

Adam Tanner hasn't played a first team game since Bishop's Stortford. I don't think he is match fit unless he has been playing for the reserves.
Why does this bloke never get a look in?
He is apparently (according to media sources) one of our most famous and highly respected players!
We all know the problems he's had at Colchester, but hopefully they're behind him now, come on Jeff I'm sure he wants to get his footballing career back on track.

Listen we haven't won for three games and all of a sudden so and so is **** . I don't wish to offend anyone but what I've read is a load of tripe and that goes along with the rest of the stuff from other fans from other clubs. Perhaps I'm getting sucked in and should just go along with the banter but I can't even be bothered to read something unless it is half sensible. This stuff about Benno i do not understand. I know I travel up with him but unless I'm playing in a different game to what is being watched i see a player who has pride in what he does and has the right attitude to what we are trying to achieve. So after my gaff at Burnley am I finished? After all how the hell did I win Supporters Player of the Year??? I'm fed up with the results of the last three games and maybe I should not reply to the comments in my depressed state of mind but please can we get behind the players rather than bloody knocking those who pull on the yellow shirt. There was me thinking that cynical fans existed only in the Premiership! Remember what CIFC is about!

I agree that Micky Bennett is struggling to hold down his place, even though we are going through a lack of defensive players. I do not question Micky's attitude or commitment, but unfortunately he does not possess the skill to remain in the team. However, the supposed Canvey fans who were standing by my dad slagging Benno off the entire game are a disgrace. Issues like this should addressed after games, just like we are doing now. As I have already said in another message, it is not Benno's fault. All he can do is give his all and if that is not good enough, then it is the job of the management to find a replacement.
A few weeks ago I went to Wimbledon for the Fans United Day. This was in aid of the campeign against Wimbledon being moved to Milton Keynes. As Brighton were in a similar situation a few years ago there were many Brighton fans there supporting the cause. Me and my mate went wearing our beloved Canvey shirts and recieved many congratulations from other fans for the Northampton game. When I got talking to a group of Brighton fans we talked about the cup game a few years back, and then they asked about Peter Smith. They had nothing bad to say about Buzz and said what a quality player he was. I then mentioned that we have got Micky Bennett as well, and their response was that 'it was a good day for Brighton Football Club when he left.' This is not me saying this, but Brighton fans where he was voted player of the year (though they didn't seem to remember that.)
At the end of the day I will support Benno when he plays, but I don't think he is good enough to play for Canvey. However, when he plays central midfield and goes forward he is quite handy, but we've got more than enough quality in that department.

It could be that Benno is suffering from a lack of confidence at present. These maybe tough time s for him and it needs people to stick with him through these hard times. Even at my level, I had a spell where I was lacking in confidence, I did not even want the ball for a couple of games. After a few fairly good passes, it's amazing how you feel better and want to contribute more. Player wise, we are a bit thin on the ground at the moment, but players need suppport when things are not going too good. Any negative feelings do not do any good. As someone has already said, the manager picks the team from who is available and it's there the decision lies to who is good enough to play. When a player wearing yellow is on that pitch, irrespective of who they are, they deserve and will feed off of positive comments and encouragement. That's what keeps the players/fans close. Let's do our bit to encourage everyone at this time.

I think ppl are being unfair on Benno , He comes off the pitch dripping with swet , he always gives 100% , and his experiance will be vital this season . Come on you Gulls

Whilst I agree with the principle of discussion boards, I wonder if this one is the right place for our own fans to 'slag-off' one of our own players. Gazza, John Crawshaw, Carjam and the others must be finding all this very amusing.
I have no problem with fans having opinions (I have very strong opinions on this subject myself) but it seems a bit self-destructive to air our dirty washing so publicly.
Steve Ward is right. Now is the time to get behind our players. With so many injuries (and the odd suspension) footballing life is getting very tough at Park Lane. I wonder if Matt and the others are making it even tougher by so public decrying players like this. Will any player read such caustic remarks and feel like lifting their game afterwards? I doubt it.
Merv CIFC

Come on lads - let's stop and think.

Canvey Island Football Club is about a team, not about individuals who will probably react badly to a bit of adverse comment.

We ALL have bad patches, whatever we choose to do for a hobby or as a living. OK - so some are more in the spotlight than others, but being told we're c r a p doesn't make us perform any better, and if Benno bothers to read this site then he probably wonders why he bothers at all and his confidence will be at an all-time low.

Get behind ALL ELEVEN who are chosen tonight - if Jeff selects Benno or Wayne or any of the others previously slagged off on this site, then that is his prerogative as manager. He hasn't let us down yet!

i'd like to think the boys are above any 'supposed' football expertise any of us post on here.. someone want to take benno on in a game of five a side or talk tactics?.. but this is where we dish out our drivel..sorry expert opinions.. and i hope none of the players from any team either gives a toss or takes any notice.. if we could do it, we would be out there ourselves coaching, managing or playing.. i doubt if any of us on here could do the pitch markings in a straight line shocked.gif" border="0
