Well Done - Canvey from Braintree

Recommended Posts

Well done Canvey.
And yes you can laugh at the 'Ricay result. All I can say is either the Manager isn't doing his job or we've got a team of no hopers 'cos they we're sooooooooo not wanting to play.
Oh, and Joe Baker? Unless his performances pick up, you can have him. In the past three or four weeks his performances have been terrible!!!
Anyway, enough about my woes and congrats to your team. See ya on Boxing Day and my prediction... I think you'll get double figures.

Lads, Lads, we can arrange your honouring of our little bet before Christmas if you wish!!
8 games undefeated, we're beginning to fire up like a great big firing thing (like perhaps a gun or an engine). Anyway, Canvey next week with revenge in our minds, I still think we have a slim chance there.
Even though they scored a scorcher yesterday and won against league opposition. We seem to be rising to the occasion and we are a lot stronger defensively now. I think we will realistically 3rd this year, and if Canvey and GNFC start dropping points, who knows??
This exuberence won't be here next week, I will probably be licking my wounds. But unlike our Mancunian friends, the empire hasn't crumbled yet!!

Methinks SteveP is getting a touch of Carjamitis. If you want to apply logic - consider this Stevie old boy. Chesham have to visit Cressing Road. Braintree remain unbeaten at home, only one draw. have you factored in the impending loss to your third position calculation? I reckon not. Having said that I have to accept there isn't a great deal of logic attached to football results, if there were, we'd all be giving Littlewoods etc a hiding.

the iron are the form team at home.. no one expects any favours there.. riccay did 7 or was it 8 wins on the spin at the start of the season.. since then form has been poor.. i happen to think riccay will beat us on boxing day i will divulge why a bit nearer the time. but it will be 3-1 ....... chesham were one of my top tips for the season and i will be happy if we make it 4 points from 6 on saturday.. i dont think many will do better than that against them. what with these 2 games and the shots away i can see the league closing up again or even G and N getting a break on.. i must confess i didnt rate em this season but you cant argue with the facts

You give us too much credit Canv it was 5 on the trot at the start of the season... It will be intersting to see if fixture pileup has any effect this season, Billericay are perfectly placed to benefit if it does ... Hard to see anybody other than Canvey winning it at the moment but we're not yet half way through the league season. Last couple of seasons Billericay have picked up after Christmas - am hoping that will continue this year ... Bring on Maidenhead!

I for one have been quietly impressed with Chesham this year - you started the season I think with an apparant striker problem yet have managed to play some impressive football.
We on the other hand have a formidible home record which doesn't really tell the true story of our form, Saturday being a case in point, nearly every team will say, in some cases rightly, that not necessarily the best team won when playing us at Cressing Road - it was exactly the same at the beginning of last season - what we have got going for us though is real team spirit - the team does play for and support each other.
'Ricay on the other hand are playing some strangely bad football it would seem - especially after a promising start - are you really sliding backwards or are the Saints so vastly improving??
Canvey of course don't seem to be putting a foot wrong - and well done again for keeping the profile of this league so much to the fore.

Just to add my congratulations to Canvey.
In my 'umble opinion, they are the strongest team in the league and will probably be 10+ points clear come the end of the season. G&N are on a roll and will probably finish second.
If George Borg doesn't completely alienate the players and fans we will probably finish third - although at present I fear the worse since the man is becoming more and more bizarre by the week.
If we slip up Chesham will probably nick third place. Meanwhile I suspect that Braintree and Billericay will be competing for local pride just outside the top six.

Irony - not sure - since the FA cup defeat against Tiverton the team has lost confidence on a major scale - St Albans were better than when we played them in September but on Saturday we were awful - reckon we'll finish 5th behind Canvey (1) G&N (2) Chesham (3) Aldershot (4).
However am notoriously bad at picking winners so Canvey and Gravesend will sink into the Thames Estuary Chesham will dissapear into a black hole Aldershot will be destroyed by the gravitational pull of the Borgs ego and Hendon will come from nowhere to win the league by a record 25 point margin.
Have been in the pub with a Slough fan, A Bristol Rovers fan, a cardiff fan and a a Swindon fan so it all makes perfect sense to me anyway

don't want to be contentious (yer alright I do!!) about this Gazza/Simon but referring back to an earlier posting - you talked of a slow build up of team over the seasons to take you up to Conference - you must see recent form as a major setback on that - especially when key players like Joe Baker aren't performing!
I could be wrong (usually am) but I just don't get the sense that Billericay are coming over as serious players for future promotion.

Go on - there I said it - shoot me down in flames!

I see im being mentioned again. Ok you made your points and I agree with most of them. I have been trying not to have a dig at the Canvey fans, but well they make it difficult.

My point. Well done Canvey Island and congratulations on your cup exploits. The screening of the match though convinced me of a couple of things.

The match was awful. Dont want to take anything away from a great result. Surely somebody else must have noticed how bad Northampton were. Canvey's performance on the day was only just better. The performances by Gravesend this season have generally been far away ahead of that. If that is how Canvey are playing this season then 'The Fleet' have little to worry about and will finish easily above them. So to will Aldershot when things are sorted. And possibly half of the Ryman.

Add to this the appauling state of the stadium and playing surfice. Is this the sort of publicity the Ryman wants. I was a little embaressed by the behavior of some supporters at the end and the overhead shots of the stadium. It did look appauling.
Just an Opinion
CaR Jam
CarJam

Irony - a patch of poor (make that awful) form does not make us into a bad team - We've lost fewer league matches than Man U! The team has a major confidence problem at the moment, not helped by a couple of key players playing as if their minds were elsewhere. In terms of football ability alone we're a top 4 team, in terms of confidence and attitude we're bottom half. I'm confident that we'll turn it round, but we may have to bring in a few new faces to do it.

Hendon winning this league by 25 points is the worst prediction since General Eisenhower said "Pearl Harbor?? The Japs would never attack that!!". Mind you, what was that I said about blind optimism??
As we approach Christmas it's always worth considering making a charity donation. I will be starting a new charity campaign called SCD (Send Croydon Down).
This is a charity which is focused on relieving the pain and suffering of going to a remote desolate hell hole to see the least entertaining games of the season whilst going through heavy traffic.
Just 50p of your money can make a difference, you won't have to watch long suffering ball boys having to run miles just to retreive the ball.
My plan is hoard as much money together as possible and add it as a win bonus for any league team playing Croydon. How's this for a motto:
Let's SCD to stop the suffering.
I was thinking we could print T-Shirts with "Croydon, together we bring it down". Do I have any backers??
I for one will be doing my part when I pick up £20 from Gaz and Iron Knob. You know where the money's going!! grin.gif" border="0
[ 12 December 2001: This message was edited by: SteveP-Chesh ]
[ 12 December 2001: This message was edited by: SteveP-Chesh ]

Yes Carjam, unfortunatly that is how we,ve been playing all season.I for one can,t understand why our goal difference is so outstanding, must be something to do with being able to beat teams from our league by scores like 7-0 and5-1

Yes - Carjam - I guess you were embarassed about the shot over the stadium! it showed some dirty great chimneys spilling out heeps of smoke, they were in Kent weren't they, a place called Gravesend no doubt. Just remind me Carjam how many Division Two teams has your 'just perfect' football team played in the last two season (in Comps of course)?
BTW you don't happen to be a Wealdstone supporter in disguess do you. Sound very much like one, sad so sad!
[ 12 December 2001: This message was edited by: vic ]

mad.gif" border="0 still high on medication of the wacky baccy variety I am going to make a statement in agreement with Carjam - don't get pissed its only the bit where I do agree that GNFFC have played some good football this season and quite rightly deserve their, final, sorry present position!
And that's where it end - Carjam before you start digging out other clubs for the celubrious surroundings can I suggest you wonder round the ground next time you go to a match - north Kent particularly the Thames Estuary south side is hardly known for its National Trust beauty, - and so Northampton looked bad - your point?
I met two young lads in the pub - 20 somethings who didn't even know what the Ryman league was all about but on the basis of Canvey's run are going along to the next Braintree game (yer I know in for shock!) So carjam for a clubs whose fan base are people who have spent the last twenty years trying to find the escape route back to London - chill out guy - nobody and Canvey fans especially have tried to pretend that Canvey are anything more at the moment than a Ryman club-but thats exactly the point!!
