Lesser Spotted Woodpecker

68 birds now, hopefully more to come today once i decide where to go

Spotted three waxwings and a small flock of goldcrests in Valentines Park in Ilford the other day, beautiful largish park with lots of interesting features and pathways everywhere which makes it ideal for pushchairs and dog walkers who don't like muddy feet.

Well done on the SBG. You picked the right day to go as it will probably be manic over there tomorrow.

To be honest, I can't get too excited about Gulls, I'd rather see something that's definitely a "something". Gulls are so difficult what with all the juvenile, 1st, 2nd winter, adult differences. If I went over there, I could only identify it if someone said that is a SBG. As you say on BirdForum, I wouldn't have a scooby!!

It's taken a great deal of debate to determine that it's a SBG, even LGRE was uncertain for a while!! There isn't a picture of it in Collins.

Mind you, if it's there on Wednesday, I may slide over there for the guided walk!
