What No ground Grading

This might prove to be very a important piece of news. However, your reference to, "We understand that..." is just a tad vague. Can you give more details or, better still, point us in the direction of where more details are available? Thanks<p>Merv CIFC

From Kingstonians Site (Latest News)<p>'Canvey Island have not yet been awarded a ground grading suitable for the conference. They have been given till April 1st to complete the work.<p>Farnborough have reportedly been told that their ground will no longer be awarded a conference gradind. As of next season they will have to find a new home, or face expulsion.'<p>Interesting but not yet confirmed. Perhaps the inspectors paid a visit when 'The Fleet' called in.

The info on Farnboro' is true. It was plastered all over ceefax. Haven't heard anything about our ground though.<p>It's funny how last year we (Canvey & Farnboro') would have been allowed in the conference, and now neither of us are allowed in (supposedly).

I suggest we wait and hear what the club has to say on this one. Remember, a club could fail to meet the grading requirements if, for example, a hand-rail were loose, if a fence panel was missing or if some terracing steps were too high. None of these things would be impossible to rectify before 1st April.<p>A year ago the club did all the things needed to obtain the necessary Conference grading and until someone with knowledge of the situation can post the changes in the Conference specifications (anybody know how to get this information?) all we can do it wait and see.<p>What really sticks in the crawl of some of our detractors it the fact that NOT included in the specs are - ground looks rubbish - the manager is rather rotund - jealousy of the club's success - the 'beach' is muddy - there is an oil refinery close by (but off the island) - Alan Hansen doesn't like the club.<p>If these things were in the specs, we would probably be doomed. As it happens I am sure that any minor defects will be sorted in good time.<p>Merv CIFC

To the best of my knowledge, and this may or may not still be true, the Conference Ground Grading Committee is made up of the chairmen of several Conference clubs. The season that we finished in a promotion place, the chairman of the committee was also the chairman of Welling United, who just happened to finish third from bottom in the Conference that season. It was commented in St Albans at the time that we wouldn't have got into the Conference that season if we'd been playing our home matches at Old Trafford. Whether this situation has altered over the years or not, I don't know. We're currently fighting a rather different battle to the one that you're fighting. Maybe the Conference don't want anyone promoted until Aldershot win the league, in which case we'll all be holding our breath until about the year 2050...

He was probably correct about the Old Trafford bit, because Man U's ground does not meet Conference standard.<p>One of the rules now is that the tunnel must be on or about the half-way line and cannot be at either end or in the corner.<p>How many other grounds would fall foul on just this one point?<p>Wealdstone Fan

And B4 you all accuse me of being jelous of your sucess(which of course I am at the moment especially with the possiblity of no St.Albans club at all in a few weeks)

But your ground is nowhere near confrence standard and neither is Farnbroughs (my understanding was Franboroughs were to ground share next season why there 100000 all seater premiership stadium was bulit - avaerage crowd 34)

It's ironic that city have a fantasic confrence ground and possibly no team while you have a fantastic team with no decent ground. Shall we merge?<p>Or you might just do a Colyne Dynamos
