cruising the non legue websites recently, it has come to my attention that a lot of clubs fans in this league really do dislike us..

i could understand the odd bit of bitching and pre and post match banter but at every oppertunity its a canvey bashing free for all.. what did we ever do to deserve such animosity...sure i can understand local rivalry but you see very little riccay and no grays braintree heybridge etc slagging off on here..i dont even recall a G and N bashing session, yet on their board they talk of us in less than glowing terms.. we are the fans not the floodlight engineers... we have never proclaimed our ground is anything other than a jumped up essex senior patch of grass (mind you if it is so **** , strange that we have the second highest attendance average in the league).. and i think its safe to say most of our fans want to see good football and by and large we play it... sure there will be occasions when it all goes **** up, i for one didn't rate our players in the last fifteen against G and N but overall canvey play football..the only clubs fans that ever say much complimentary are the shots boys...

now to make a few points clear

1. im not one of your sharing caring sensitive souls whos cares about other people opinions

2. i am talking here about the stuff that is posted over the course of a season not b4 and after important matches

3. and i appreciate certain individuals may have certain personnal issues that affect thier opinions

i just cant believe that we have never really got any issues with other clubs fans but lots of them have with us.. i can understand a resentment of 'alledged' suger daddied success, but we draw as good or better crowds now than anyone after the shots.. the K's fans were more than happy to see the fleet go above us.. would such gloating have occured if they had beaten the fleet, i dont think so, and what have ourselves and the K's got to beef about?..

i am sometime truly confused ,taking the above exceptions apart as to what the big deal is..we are only the fans that want to see our club succeed and play good football

Well the floodlight incident apart Canv there was a few (alleged) Canvey fans who decided to come to our board and tell us what S**t ground we had, no fans and no chance of winning the league, so you can expect some retaliation.
I think you will find that apart from those last fifteen minutes most of our postings said that you did look a good team, certainly I tried to squeeze that into the match report.
I think that we have been immune because:
a. Nobody really took our challenge seriously.
b. We don't have a "big personality" manager a la Borg or King. The article in NLP probably sums it up.
c. Have you looked at some of the postings on our board, they are so far off the wall that no one else knows what to do with them.
Personally, I have found most of the Canvey fans who post regularly here well-informed and with a sense of humour, and I hope that they feel the same about those of us from G&N who post here.

well i can only say that the fans from the other sides in our league are as passionate as we are. They are also entitled to their own opinion as we are. If they do talk about canvey so much they are probably secret canvey supporters. That they too have been caught up in our success. We dont really talk about other teams as we are in no position to put other teams down because the have made our league one of the strongest outside the conference,

I think CANV, because of the success in cups etc., your club are suffering from the "Manchester United" syndrome.
Don't worry about it. You should see what the 'Shots fans say about us (and what we say about them. It is a two way love affair!!!).
Success breeds jealously and it doesn't matter if its won by fair means, foul means or pure luck.
If it is any consolation, I still luv ya, grudgingly, but I do (its a local rival thing - I would do anything to let of steam and have a good natured bit of Canvey baiting and banter).
keep cool, CANV (and the rest of you "Scummers")...

I'm inclined to agree with Gazza on this subject. I think that due to our cup runs both last year and this and the publicity given to them, people automatically think that Canvey fans are big headed and are happy to see us taken down a peg or two.

Whilst I do not agree with these people, I can see their point. After all, if you think about things, we received a lot of attention last year with our two games against Port Vale, the local derby with Southend and the Trophy win and this year what happens? Suddenly those Canvey upstarts are beating another division two side, then appearing on television and going to a well respected league club in the prestigious third round.

I seem to recall also that somebody on TV during our game with Northampton had the audacity to say that we were eight points clear in the Rymans(leaving out the fact that Gravesend had two games in hand!)and would be playing in the Conference next year. No might about it, just that we would be playing there next season. Obviously more big headedness from the Canvey brigade.

All this time, of course, Gravesend were just quietly going about the business of winning league games and keeping on our tail. From the outsiders point of view, it's a case of look at Canvey shouting their mouth off again as opposed to how nice to see Gravesend politely going about their business.

As Gazza says it's Man. Utd. syndrome simply knock the team that's getting the most publicity even if all the big talk comes from the media and not the humble supporter.

And I believe Sky did the same thing and more or less said the title was Canvey's.
So through no fault of yours, our supporters in particular start to feel downtrodden and vent their feelings against Canvey as a club rather than the media sources concerned ( I suspect Canvey fans would feel the same way, if they had been more or less written off for the title with the media saying the same things about Gravesend )
And, as Dave says, the floodlight incident at our game certainly didnt help your cause.
When you did try and play football, however, you did look good.

Canv - I am really suprised that you have only just realised. I don't think it is just recent events that this ill feeling comes from, I would say that the majority of fans who's clubs have been established for years in the upper divisions of the Ryman League look upon Canvey FC as - 'those upstarts from the Essex Senior League, pinching all the glory that really belongs to the long established Clubs'. You only have to look at postings from the likes of Carjam/John Crawshaw and many others who insist on bringing up their own clubs past glories and fan base of past and present, how much better their grounds are than ours etc, etc. We, as supporters as well as the Club get the blame for the glory hunters and the silly few of the glory boys who decide to post onto other club forums with rediculous messages, but many of the new faces are staying with us and that is what success is all about.

I am convinced that it would please many of the so called Non-League supporters if Canvey FC failed and fell back down the League to the Essex Senior. Yes, I am fed up with Canvey bashing and it will continue even when we progress further up the Pyramid.

As a Grays Ath supporter I do find Some Canvey Supporters a bit above themselves but generally they are not a bad bunch,I think they will win the league and hopefully we will follow them next Year
