Canvey Island Vs Tonbridge

Recommended Posts

Amazing isn't it how regardless of where in the league table our opponents are, we're always deemed as a poor side when we've beaten them. Some very bitter perspectives here:

we were crap today against a very poor canvey team

First time I've ever visited Canvey's ground - not a very pleasant experience. What was those celebrations about at the final whistle? So over-the-top it wasn't true...

Fair play to them for bringing the numbers though been a while since I've seen an away following that almost equalled the home fans.

I am more than happy for every team in the league to consider us a poor team if we keep beating them! Let's hope we're just as poor against Sutton on Saturday, we might win that one too!

They travelled very well indeed, although weren't as vocal as I was expecting. Regardless of everything I do like Tonbridge as a club, they've got a very good setup at their place.

Thanks to everyone at CIFC for their concern, John's grandad, Charlie, is fine although still a little shaken. The guy responsible was arrested and given a caution for assort.....bit of a let off although he is a soldier according to the police so may face further reprimand from his employees.

I was proud of both the team and the supporters............best in the league by far and only underlines that John made the right decision earlier in the season.

Yellow Army,

Mitch

Just checked out the Tonbridge forum.............would just like to point out that 'Nixcel' is a complete liar........hope you can sleep at night condoning an attack on a OAP....SEEMS THE POLICE REPORT IS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT TO YOURS FELLA!!

Would also like to add that most Angels fans actually had the balls to admit the assort and apologise after....shame on you pal.....

Just saw that myself, Mitch. Nothing like a bit of sensationalism to draw out some sympathy. I see it only mentions one side of the verbal abuse dished out and not the goading suffered by the young girl with your family during the game.

A few of there fans are hardly whiter than white. Some of their supporters tried to attack Hornchurch players in a match a few years ago apparently.

In fairness, most of their supporters seem OK and some sensible comments on their forum.

their forum makes for quite infuriating reading.

there are some of their fans who quite clearly are embarrassed and apologetic. But then, you read on and some spout on about how this is a regular occurrence at the brockwell...have i totally missed out a large amount of games with crowd trouble?

I make no bones in saying this, tonbridge have some horrible fans, when we beat them 2/3 years ago at their place,a large group of their fans (around 80) waited for 15 minutes at the end of the game to attack our players, the only reason they were not successful was that there were about 15 stewards stopping them, that amount of stewards in one area of the ground should tell you enough

A throughly excellent day at the Brockwell with the locals going home very happy after that solid performance.I thought the atmosphere was supberb from the minute i arrived at the stadium until the moment i left slightly wobbly at 10:30pm ;) . Terribe behaviour by the idiot Tonbridge fan who attacked John Easterford's Grandad, attacking a OAP is as low as it gets! Apart from him i thought that 60 to 70 Tonbridge fans were good natured but very quite.

Jason Hallet throughly deserved his MOM, he worked so hard and looked very sharp, keep it up Jason!

What a great day! In previous seasons I'm not sure we would have held out to the end like we did. Every single player put 110% into the match, and you can just tell they all have that desire to win every game - something we may have lacked in the past. We played some great football against a team that was never going to make it easy for us, but our home form continues!

Both sets of supporters were always going to disagree with what happened after the match, but when their head steward says "He's done this before, I thought he was banned." then it puts things into perspective. Most of their fans were harmless though, so it shouldn't be held against them. Every club has a few idiots!

It's going to be a great end to the season - I can't remember the league being this tight before?! We have 6 away games and 3 home games left - let's be the 12th man for each and every one of those like we have been recently. COME ON YOU YELLOWS!

I'll 2nd that. I wish him well and hope to see him again at the Brockwell.

I don't care what was said or done before hand. NOTHING justifies hitting a 77 year old.

Glad to hear he's okay Mitch, wish him all the best from us.

Corr, he must have had a bad weekend, he has aged quite a bit since Saturday!!!!

I have been reading the Tonbridge forum and certain people on there have put the 'Facts' of Saturdays events down in writing, not one of them seemed to have mentioned that the bloke accused of the assault didnt actually put up any resistance to being led away and held until the Old Bill arrived! As soon as he had committed the offence, guilt was written all over his face and when he was escorted out of the ground, he took a deep breath and looked to the ground, he knew what he did was bang out of order! It amazes me how people cant just hold their hands up and say fair cop instead of making pathetic excuses and trying to justify the whole sorry episode. I found the Tonbridge supporters a friendly bunch and and after the incident they were apologetic and embarrassed, by all accounts the fella who was involved isn't one of their regular supporters but has had previous trouble with them before! A similar incident happened at the Hx v Sutton game and again reading both forums, no one seems prepared to take the blame!!! Just supporters throwing accusations backwards and forwards!!!

I would like to thank The Great Eckscape for joining the Angels forum, with his very balanced view of things.

My last report was going to be my only comments on the awful events of Saturday, but it would seem that certain people believe that I am a liar, and asked how I can sleep at night!

I can assure you that I sleep with a clear conscience, as the account I gave as I said was factual regarding the events that I witnessed.

I felt I made it very clear as to who I was, and anybody involved would be able to bear witness that I was caught in the middle of things and that I am telling the truth regards my actions on the day, Do I really need to describe all these people???? Just to prove I was there.

By all means, ask the older gentleman and his daughter if they remember me doing what I said I did.

I have no reason to lie, Sadly, there were most definitely wrongs on both sides.

At no point have I condoned any of the violence that I witnessed that day, I only acted as a "peacemaker".

Unfortunately, when things like this happen, peoples emotions run extremely high, and comments are made from both sides, some bad, some sensible, all those involved know the part they played, but I am glad to see that everybody is united in condemning any attack of any kind be it young, old, male or female, we are all there to enjoy the sport and we do shout and holler at each other, it's all part of the fun, but when the final whistle blows, win or lose, we should all be able to shake hands and look forward to the next time we meet.

Unfortunately there is a minority that feel affronted by the banter, and take it very personally, maybe they should learn to accept that it is not directed at them.

In the words of the old adage, IF YOU CAN'T TAKE IT, DON'T GIVE IT.

We are all delighted that the Gentleman is well, and really hope that this doesn't put him off following his grandson's footballing career.

I hope that we can all now move on and enjoy the rest of the season, and support our teams with our hearts and voices.

With regards to our incident Saturday, one of our players fathers was hit over a comment he made, the person who hit him seems to be unknown to both sets of fans but I seriously would question why someone from our club would hit a players father, just don't make sense.

Sutton fans straight away said that we were fighting amongst ourselves which is complete garbage. The incident actually exploded when woods garness punched tam eyong in the face, then leeroy griffiths decided to go absolutely potty, funny how it happened just after we had equalised
