HORNCHURCH 1 EBBSFLEET 6

Hornchurch found themselves up against a Gravesend team which included several of their first team Conference squad, and it was only an incredible display from Michael Bowditch that kept the score down. Michael made a series of excellent saves, starting in the first minute when he had to parry a shot from Adam Williams. But a minute later he could do nothing to prevent SCOTT GINTY opening the score when he sidefooted home a cross from the right. Bowditch made two excellent saves inside a matter of seconds, first diving to stop another shot from Ginty and then twisting sideways to tip the follow up over the bar for a corner.

Another Ginty shot was tipped over the bar shortly afterwards, before Hornchurch rallied, when Luke Dickens moved along the right wing to slot through to Dwayne Williams, whose first time cross into the goalmouth went begging. Liam Sevine was denied by another Bowditch save and Michael dived spectacularly to keep Ginty’s follow up shot out of the net.

Hornchurch drew level when a long dipping cross from the left was headed home by AARON GAYLE, and it then back to the other end, where Alexandra Staurinoh’s hard struck free kick was tipped around the post by Michael Bowditch. But Ebbsfleet went back in front when SCOTT GINTY side poked the ball home from another right wing cross. Les Thompson went close to equalising close to half time when he headed narrowly over the bar.

Second half was just a minute old when SCOTT GINTY converted a cross from Liam Sevine, and Reece Lyons went close when he headed over from a John Herd free kick. On 49 minutes it was SCOTT GINTY once again who converted a low cross, and Hornchurch nearly pulled a goal back when Sam Bantick powered through the middle, only for Joe Welch to turn the ball around the post with a fine diving save. Bantick again broke through the middle but this time he put his shot wide of the post.

Lanre Azeez had been causing major problems on the right, but found Bowditch in top form, but Bowditch twice saved from Ginty, who also hit the bar, and had a goal disallowed, in moves emanating from Azeez. SCOTT GINTY netted his fifth when he fired the ball home in style from another right wing cross. It is unusual for any player to score five in a match, but Ginty was denied further goals when he was substituted, and following his departure play evened out, with Hornchurch coming much more into the match as an attacking force. Bowditch had made three further saves to keep the score down, before CHE MASROH-McDOWELL netted the sixth goal with what was virtually the final kick of the match.
