Halloween podcast?

If the Halloween disco's taking place this Saturday, would it be an idea to record the inaugural podcast before the disco starts? Could be a good time to get in some punditry prior to the Trophy clash at Chertsey. Any guesses as to how long it would take to record the podcast?

Well, Lilly will be at the game with me and I've managed to establish something of a routine where she goes to bed around 7pm, so if we do record it will either have to be before kick-off or straight after the game so we can get home reasonably early.

I intend the thing to go out "as live" - we don't have the time and I don't have the skill to be doing multiple takes and then knitting it together. It's intended to be a semi-formal production that gives the club a showcase and the fans a voice.

With this in mind, I reckon half-an-hour or so over a pint should do it. Anyone up for it?

No problem, but I can make it after the game if that's easier for you. In fact, that might be better, as we can get voxpops on the day's performance, and we could possibly persuade a few spectators to hang around after the game to join in with the podcast. Not much interest shown on here, but a quick 'face to face' on the terraces might get some more supporters interested.

I want to cause as little disruption to your duties as possible and, at first, I wasn't sure how much time you'd get after the game, what with committee duties, possibly doing an interview for the website and trying to get Lilly to bed by 7.00. Your move!

Kev's also shown an interest in helping out with the podcast, with the hope it gets underway not too long after the final whistle. So, with any luck, that's me, Kev and Dan on the settee at the mo. Maybe we can get a player or one of the management joining in as a 'star guest'?

Hope this went well, I couldn't stay too late and was looking tricky to find somewhere to actually make the recording...

We recorded it in the clubhouse without any trouble, apart from needing two goes when it was discovered we'd lost ten minutes due to the MP3's memory being full! Funniest bit was The Guru saying he had to look fashionable to keep in touch with the kids in the dressing room. Kids? how old is Ben again?

I bring bad news...

Trying to edit the individual files together tonight, I discover something odd has happened. We have the original file of just under three minutes, then a second file of just under three minutes, then one of less than a second which I recognise at the bit where Graham came back in.

I have no idea what's happened - whether it was a "double tap" on the record button meaning the recorder was "paused" when it looked for all the world that it was recording or something else, I cannot say.

I can only apologise, but without knowing exactly what happened, I can't explain it.

We'll have to have another bash at it once we've got a Press Officer and/or I'm not trying to juggle football and parenthood.

Another issue yesterday was "handheld" recording as opposed to putting the thing on the table - this was because there weren't sufficient available seats after the game, which wasn't a problem pre-match. If we'd been able to look at the display, we'd have identified any problems.

I'll be at Chertsey next weekend - maybe some of us could have a chat pre/post match and plan the way forward? It's worth bearing in mind that once the proper winter weather comes, I won't be at any Saturday games, regardless of the venue, as I can't keep Lilly out in the cold for the length of time that travelling to/from Hayes by public transport and a match involves. It's not fair on her and it would be pretty lousy parenting too.

I don't think the away game at Chertsey will be ideal for this, how about the evening game at home to AFC Hayes on 15th Nov :applause:

Can I just clarify - I'm not suggesting we have another attempt at recording the podcast at Chertsey.

I am suggesting a quick chat among those interested in taking part to plan the way forward, particularly given my impending absence from all Saturday matches.

I have some reservations about recording at midweek games - not least the amount of time it takes me to get to them from the office and the potential lateness of a post-match recording.
