A comfortable win for us today but your lads deserve a lot of credit for trying to get the ball down and pass it for the whole game. Credit to the 106 fans there too who definitely made themselves heard. I've seen worse Blue Square Premier sides here this season.

The early goal settled s and our 3rd came bang on half time which killed the game off really when Elding was given all the time in the world to head home bang on half-time. We took our top scorer Liam Hearn off at half-time with being 3-0 up but to be fair he didn't have the best 45 minutes anyway.

In the 2nd half I thought you were probably the better team and had that chance gone it right at the start of the 2nd half instead of hitting the post it may just have set a few nerves jangling. Our 4th which was a great individual goal came against the run of play and after we had gone 4-0 up a lot of fans around me actually wanted you to score as you deserved a goal for your second half performance as did your fans.

Anyway, I hope the fans who travelled enjoyed their time up here despite the result and good luck for the rest of the season and hope that you go on to win your league.

Report from the FA - http://www.thefa.com/Competitions/FACompetitions/TheFATrophy/NewsAndFeatures/2012/grimsby-hornchurch-report-140112

Hornchurch’s FA Trophy dream was ended by a ruthlessly efficient Grimsby Town in the Second Round Proper at Blundell Park today.

Shaun Pearson marked his return to the starting line-up with the opening goal, before an Anthony Elding double put the result beyond doubt before half-time.

In the second half, the one-sided scoring was completed when Conor Townsend made it 4-0.

Visitors Hornchurch faced an uphill task even before the whistle went as their 19-goal top scorer Martin Tuohy was ruled out through suspension.

Grimsby were in no mind to be sympathetic, however, and rattled in four without reply past their toothless opponents.

Pearson’s opener was a header from a corner after one of Grimsby’s sustained first-half attacks.

Hornchurch did their best to retaliate but Lewis Smith fired high and wide from out on the left when he could and should have done better.

Elding got his first of the day when he reacted first to a shot volleyed across the Hornchurch goal to tap in and take his personal tally for the season into double figures.

Elding got his second of the afternoon in first-half injury time. Once again, he met across ahead of the Hornchurch defence but this time converted with his head.

It was a similar story in the second half with Grimsby dominating possession and adding to the scoring.

On 72 minutes, the result was confirmed when Townsend scored the goal of the day with a superb solo effort.

The Town star picked the ball up close to the touchline on the left and beat his man before cutting in and firing low and hard into the Hornchurch net.

Town then closed the game out to keep a clean sheet, despite the efforts of Hornchurch to force a late consolation goal, and secure £6,000 prize money.

Decent game today, died away a little in the second half but I was impressed by Hornchurch. Seems like you have a good little squad of players and play football the right way. No surprise you're top of your league. Cracking support from the travelling fans too, outsang us and started a welcome conga around the away end... need more of those at football grounds! Good banter with your tubby forward as well (how large is he by the way?!). Good luck with the rest of the season., safe journey.

Can I just say Harry thank for you all the help recently. It made our trip up to your place a lot easier to plan.

Good luck to Grimsby for the rest of the season - unfortunately for us we've played you when you are in a rich vein of form.
