Although a stronger than normal Hornchurch team had a comfortable win over Potters Bar, Michael Bowditch was still called upon to make three fine saves, two of them in quick succession in the second half. Hornchurch were always in command and took an early lead when LES THOMPSON moved in from the left, rounded a defender, and scored with a well taken shot from a narrow angle.

Tambeson Eyong was frequently dangerous with his penetrating runs on the right, and the second goal resulted from one such move, when Tambeson’s cross deep towards the far post was converted by ED O’NEILL. Eyong went close shortly afterwards but his final shot went across goal and no one was able to get a touch.

The third goal again came from an Eyong inspired move, and this time it was an obviously delighted SCOTT CURLEY who got the final touch, after Aaron Gayle’s first attempt had rebounded off the crossbar.

Changes were made for the second half, and Dwayne Williams came on for Scott Curley, whilst Joe Scott replaced Andy Tomlinson, whose free kicks in the first period had troubled the visitors. Les Thompson was replaced by Byron Cipa, as Hornchurch continued to press forward. Michael Bowditch made two good saves to keep the visitors out, and it was Tambeson Eyong who created the final goal, when he ran along the right, and turned inside. His shot was well saved by Greg Marsh, but the ball ran out to SAM BANTICK, who made no mistake with his follow up shot.
