Meant to say 'Town' not 'Tow' in the tags...

One thing I have noticed about certain clubs, at the level at which Coleshill Town play, is that they are apart from the community and not a part of it.

A nearby Midlands club, which I visited once, was very keen on keeping itself to itself. They rarely spoke to the local newspaper, didn't seem bothered about marketing themselves and when questioned about could they do more to entice more fans got rather precious indeed!

Why is it that some clubs do really well and market themselves using the right channels, and other clubs seemingly can't be bothered and as a result end up playing before one man and his dog?

Local papers do nothing for local Football at lower level.Take our paper the 'Croydon Sadvertiser'give decent coverage to Whyteleafe,Sutton,Carshalton football clubs, which do not play their matches,in their circulation area. And when they do give decent coverage to Croydon sides, they always include, incidents that happened in the past, not technically Football related.Like a death, fraud, imprisonment. Now low level Cricket gets 2 full pages,OF NON CROYDON SIDES,like wise Rugby.

Whyteleafe do play in the Croydon Adveriser circulation area - their circulation area is wider than just Croydon itself (I often buy an Advertiser in Caterham). I agree Sutton and Carshalton are pushing it a bit but then don't they publish over there as the Sutton Advertiser? Certainly Trinity Newspapers have been rationalising their sports coverage so the Croydon sports reporters work out of Reigate's Surrey Mirror office and you get the same text in the Surrey Mirror as you get in the Advertiser with different layout. My one complaint of the Advertiser is the cringeworthy obsequious coverage of Crystal Palace.

Maybe it is because of their sponsorship, expecting FREE BUDS at Wembley this year.

Excellent video !

Many teams can relate to this video and its a shame that grass roots football does not get exposure it needs from ALL formats to help struggling clubs which there are many, Think the FA could do more, but when you consider the recent difference in the Euros with England and other European teams we need to study this matter with serious effect. Technically England are far behind and to help clubs such as Coleshill perhaps we could encourage players to continue playing as opposed to giving up and being FIFA game champions instead !

But things will not change, as the video says, if a club is successful then more will go thru' the turnstiles BUT its not just the football, its the club and its people running it, who at this level are probably volunteers having their own jobs and life so time is limited and sparse. These clubs simply cannot pay people to promote, commercialise and hold events enabling much needed funds within the club to pay their bills, so they do their best just to survive.

It really is a sad affair, and when you consider all the ''professional'' and higher ranked clubs falling by the wayside what chance is there? So its a credit to these volunteers that such clubs like Coleshill remain alive ......just ! :(
