Hale Leys United 2-3 Mursley United

 

Have had this on my to do list for about 18 months but kept putting it off for better ticks. It's arguably the most basic venue in the South Midlands League, with no spectator facilities whatsoever, although it is quite scenic for a multi-pitch recreation ground. As it was the first half was played out in glorious sunshine and both sides put on an attacking display to match.

 

2-2 at half-time, and a spectacular lightning storm and ominous black clouds threatened to have us searching for a tree to shelter under, but the storm diverted south of Aylesbury in the direction of High Wycombe. Mursley stepped up a gear in the second period, the winner coming direct from a corner-kick. Mursley created several more chances as a talented Hale Leys tired.

 

Good advert for a now completed SSML, I'll miss this league (at least until 2012/13)but new adventures await.

I left at 6-2 apparently peno 90th min and three goals in injury time. We were shambling at the back but no Dinaldson and Jakub of injured and we went to bits. Lad up front offered nothing for us. However we at times played some lovely football and I honestly feel we are 3-4 players away from being a good side. Anyway on to next game Stony on tues hopefully got a few back think we are still

Missing Dearlove and Donaldson.

FA Cup - Preliminary Round

North Greenford United 2 Vs. 4 Dunstable Town

Decent game in west London. During the first half Dunstable spent most of their time defending and they did well, not well enough. 2-0 at half time to North Greenford. Dunstable barely had a say in proceedings up until that point. The second half is where things got interesting. The ball seemed to radiate towards the same end as it had in the first half, this time with Dunstable having the chances. Eventually the keeper couldn't take any more and let the first Dunstable goal in at around 20 minutes and then a second shortly after. He was not a happy bunny. Dunstable made the score 3-2 with some nice team work and then 4-2 from a throw in. The fourth seemed to be the cherry on cake, in the negative sense, for the Greenford goalkeeper. Dunstable took a throw in from a normally innocuous position and as the home keeper was shouting at his defence, the ball was looped over his head and into the back of the net. He was apoplectic with rage.

Apparently one of the Dunstable players punched a Greenford player, but I find this hard to believe as the referee didn't see it and, more to the point, neither did his official who was standing a few yards away. Certainly if they did see what happened, they didn't deem it to be anything remotely serious, given the referee didn't even speak to the player concerned.

 

Hardstanding surrounds the pitch, three stands, two of which are behind the near goal. One of the three is seated. Thundered and rained for a while at the start of the match, which is just as well as the ground was bone dry. Thankfully for the support, which wasn't exactly large, the rain didn't last.

Not a cut and thrust F.A. Cup tie with both sides trying to play the ball on the deck. This made the game rather tedious at times but a lot better than my last F.A. Cup match at Highworth which was quite the opposite! Kempston had some good chances in the first half but didn't take advantage for a half time lead. Within five minutes of the second period the home side were ahead. Full back Jordan Jarrold making a fine run through the Cockfosters midfield before unleashing an excellent shot into the top corner. This is just what the game needed and interest from all present increased! Cockfosters pushed for an equaliser and looked like getting one but just couldn't finish. The referee woke up as well, handing out eight yellow cards in the second half in what was not that type of game. Kempston put the game to bed in the eighty ninth minute with Cameron Clarke through on goal, rounding the keeper to finish into an empty net.

SOUTH MIDLANDS LEAGUE DIVISION 1-SUN POSTAL 1 AMERSHAM TOWN 1

 

Attendance-31 (Zulu h/c) Admission-£4 (inc paper) £3 (old gits rate) Refreshments-welcome burger and chips (nice to eat out)

 

Good to get this ground done as we had turned up for a possible postponement last season and decided to move on. With Zuludave in the pilot seat and his Satnav making life difficult we set off in glorious sunshine; this lasted till we were encamped inside the excellent Crown & Sceptre in Bridens Camp where the heavens opened and we proceded to watch the cricket pavilion across the road disappear in a sea of driving rain; from there it was a 10 mile drive in glorious sunshine to Watford, negotiating Dave round Hemel`s famous magic roundabout. Sun Postal is a pleasant set-up with a small stand on the far side, hard standing all the way round and fully railed. The clubhouse was 10 years old and in pristine condition. The game itself was typical SML fayre; a promising start fading into second half mediocrity and the last 15 minutes (9 minutes stoppage time) was played out in a heavy rainstorm. The journey home was uneventful with a short sojourn to tick 2 estate-style pubs, which were packed with families enjoying(?) their Bank Holiday Saturday evening, in Banbury. Looking forward to Monday and meeting up with the founder member of the LAMBERT MUST GO movement!!
