Just as well they didn't r.i.p last year or decide they would be better off being a big fish in a small pond and drop down last year. Isn't it?

PREMIER DIVISION

2-2 AFC Dunstable v Aylesbury United

A brief report on this one from another Forum:

Wednesday 5 September 2012 – Spartan S Midlands Premier – Attendance 114

AFC Dunstable (blue/blue/white) 2 – 2 Aylesbury United (orange/black/black)

Scorers: AFC Dunstable (Little 12, Clark 65) Aylesbury United (Acheampong 14, Field 74)

Pitch: not the best, but perfectly good

Weather: cooling down, cold finish

This finished all-square, 2-2 at Creasey Park, Dunstable, where AFC Dunstable allowed Aylesbury United back into the game. AFC Dunstable had just done enough to earn a 2-1 lead against a disjointed Aylesbury United, then backed off to give the visitors a rare chance, but one they didn’t miss. In all, a game played at 90 mph, not one player put his foot on the ball, with many misplaced passes made without looking. AFC Dunstable’s full-back Luke Little found space in the penalty area to side-foot home the first goal, and Joey Acheampong back-healed equaliser were the pick of the goals. More meows from Timmy Tabby Towers later. Star Man: Luke Little (AFC Dunstable)

This ground hopper must be an ex England international or have watched football at the highest level only as for a step 5 game it was entertaining and at times players showed real

quality. Afc no 10 is a good player as is Stacey Field. B

What do people expect from players who work full time, train when they can and play with real

heart and commitment for often just money that covers their petrol with the amount of travelling

they do. The managers and coaches give up hours of their time to get the teams prepared and both teams were a credit to the league.

This bloke is a jerk. Go and watch conference football if step 5s not up to your expectations. And take your plastic bag with you.

Nice on FA. How did Joey do? Always had a lot of time for him. Hoping we'll get him back one day

A further report on this one from another Forum:

Also here courtesy of the White white wagon and a 'forced' detour to the Dunstable branch of T Martins pub empire.

First visit here since 2005 and was surprised at the completely different set up with the Creasey Park Football Development Centre being in place. For once I preferred the Atcost stand with the unpleasant and possibly dangerous stand that used to be present.

Good also to see that there is still life in the Aylesbury Ducks, crowd was made up of a sizable contingent from Bucks and not surprised that the progs ran out (though Stingray you were not missing much and my edition had all the pages in the wrong order). In addition, Aylesbury United have been able to entice Kevin Gallen to put on his boots again coming on as a substitute with twenty minutes left and making a contribution beyond what was expected.

Entertaining contest as well between two of the better South Midlands League teams. AFC Dunstable in front when Clark's run was blocked by the visitors defence, the ball running loose to Little whose run was not picked up and he dispatched from the edge of the area. Parity restored very quickly when a corner was half cleared by the AFC Dunstable defence straight to Fields who headed back in the direction of Acheampong with his back to goal. Not often that you see a goal from a backheel but Acheampong's effort was unusual as the backheel was struck with a degree of power rarely seen.

Pace of the match was unrelenting throughout and although there was plenty of attacks there was often an inability to keep an attack from falling apart due to a rushed pass or a hasty shot. AFC Dunstable back in front when Little made progress down the right, his pass found Clark via BJ Christie and Clark took advantage of the gap which opened up in front of him and his shot from 25 yards ended up beating Sillitoe for pace into the far corner.

Burgoyne could have made the match safe for AFC Dunstable with 25 minutes left but angled over the near post. However, for all their efforts, Aylesbury United were deserving of an equaliser and this arrived when the recently introduced Gallen got to the by-line and his low cross was converted at the near post by a very good finish by Fields.

Both teams had chances to win late on with an awkward cross from Burgoyne for AFC Dunstable bouncing off the top of the bar and for the visitors when Butler put over a cross from the right but Fields launching a potential diving header completely missed the ball. The sharing of the points was on the balance of play a fair outcome.
