The Evening Echo reports that former Southend defender Shane Wardley has signed for the Gulls immidiately after last nights ESC game. Wardley was released by the Shrimpers last month.
Now we have two ginger defenders with 'WARD' in their names!
Pumpkin images/icons/shocked.gif" border="0

That's funny the news story has vaqnished from the website, and his details removed from the squad page!
Did the Echo get their facts wrong or is it all a conspiracy and we don't want to reveal him yet?
Pumpkin.

I think I had better retract my earlier retraction about the signing not being on the site - confused? I am.
Can someone please tell me what is happening.
Th Echo publish a story, we have the story on the site, it is discussed here, then it appears on the site, then it vanishes from the site.
Is this a case of the club dictating tho the site, as to what can and cannot go on it?
I am confused, and if my last statement is true, then angry as well.
images/icons/mad.gif" border="0
Can someone please let us know what is happening.

No conspiracy, just a bit of confusion between the three of us (Matt, Ian and myself) who actually run the Canvey website.
Wardley hasn't signed for Canvey yet and is required by his present club tomorrow. There is very little doubt that he will sign immediately after that. The Evening Echo and BBC Essex jumped the gun in printing the story. I wanted to wait until he had actually signed before I put it on the site.
Both Ian and I were otherwise engaged yesterday afternoon and evening with our normal day jobs and it was impossible for us to put anything on the site. Matt read the article in the Evening Echo and as he couldn't reach Ian or I he updated the news section and also did some research for the squad page. He did this in all innocence believing the story to be true
As the story was not exactly true I deleted it this morning, contacted the club and asked for an update. Keith Johnson emailed me almost immediately with the latest situation and that is now on the home and news pages (read it here)
CanveyFC.Com is an unofficial site but we pride ourselves on the excellent relationship we have with the club and all the officials. In the past we have written news and stories that have been less than complimentary or have upset the club but they have never asked us to remove an article. If you knew us well enough you would realise that we are not 'yes men' but with the positive relationship we have with the club, we don't need to be.
Merv CIFC

Sorry folks, my fault. images/icons/blush.gif" border="0
I also jumped the gun. I couldn't get in touch with the other webmasters, or the club and read the article on the Evening Echo website last night.
If anything is posted on the website it is 100% true. So it was decided to take the story off.
It now goes to show that not everything in the Echo is fully genuine! images/icons/wink.gif" border="0
Matt CIFC

Seem to remember young Shane from the Pre-season friendly game against the Shrimpers. Looked quite good on that day. May need a few good meals inside him, as he's a bit slight in build.
