Thoughts on today's game

Recommended Posts

Fair result probably. Met a team who worked for everything & made things very tight.

Very physical side, but no real complaints - except for the no. 4, who got sent off. He'd got away with a lot of holding, particularly on Rob Haworth & then had the gall to complain bitterly about his 1st yellow. And what was all that with him coming onto the field of play at the end & pretending to be embracing Ben Walshe, when obviously not whispering sweet nothings in his ear? (Talking of Ben Walshe, who had the most stupid hairstyle, him or their 1st sub?)

Obviously, should have scored the penalty (after Tuesday's showing, I'd like to see Andy Drury or Matt Lee take them) but then their no.9 also had a cast iron chance to win the game, when he headed straight into Wilko's arms, with the goal gaping.

All in all, in the recent past, we'd have lost this game. (Eg during our promotion season, going out of FA Trophy to Stalybridge Celtic.) So, mildly disappointing, but no way are we going down.

Played well in the first half, McKimm especially, but second half was very disjointed. I think they took off their Howarth at half-time who had been marking our Haworth and the bloke that came on did a much better job on Haworth.

Abbey's penalty was very poorly struck - ironic after Tuesday's excellent spot kicks that we miss our first one in ages!!

Three Saturday 0-0s in a row, would settle for four next week! Bit more daylight with Northwich and Farnborough losing but Leigh won. Think how far away from the relegation zone we'd be if we'd won even two of our drawn matches!

Dissapointed with the result, we should be winning these games. Not just no. 4 how about number 11? went down so many times pretending to be injured then 1 min later was running about as normal. I think that Tuesdays game was a big factor (especially having to go to et and pens)today, we were still quite tired from that game. Hopefully the players will be back to full fitness for saturday and will get a good result (replay on tuesday cos i cant get to the game )

C'mon Reds

Yet another dull 0-0 draw, but at least I didn't have to go to Northwich. Yet again, another game where we should of had all the points sewn up. Agree with the Stephen Halford(4) blatant foul, but Rory Prendergast(11) should of walked as well, for the most OTT display of diving I have ever seen in my entire life. How the hell Accy are seventh I don't know, they were absolute crap and we weren't much better. No more long balls down the middle, missing out the midfield, Abbey hasn't got thr height, play it to him and Haworth along the ground. As for the penalty, we hadn't had to take any until last Tuesday, so who's our penalty taker? Certainly not Abbey, he telegraphed his kick by concentrating on the one spot. Jon Kennedy knew exactly where it was going before Abbey had turned away to make his run up. After Tuesday's game I would of chosen Rob Owen. All in all yet more points dropped than a point gained.

Was it just me or was there a strange, almost subdued atmosphere yesterday? Many people, myself included, just knew the game had 0-0 stamped all over it after only 20 minutes. Odd. And as for Ben, I think the whole stadium knew where he was going to place his kick, it was so obvious...and I bet he's gutted.

When we go to Accy, shall we present a certificate of excellence to Mr Prendergast from the 'Pires School of Diving: Klinsman Master Class'.

Yes, the penalty was crap.....but I don't think Abbey is that bad....covered a lot of ground without getting a great deal of support and was subject to quite few "professional" tackles i.e. tackles that made no attempt to get the ball....anyway enough of that.

Do you know what I found most disappointing of all ( after the penalty miss !) ? The way certain people leap into moaning mode as soon as something goes wrong or doesn't work/happen.

Thought the idea was to encourage and get behind the team through thick & thin ??

Just a personal thought that's all.

Cheers,

I agree with your sentiments about the moaning, Hirsty but, even though I give it loads when singing with Plough End boys, when I saw a jump of 3 or 4 places in the league go up the swannie so needlessly, I found it difficult to sing my heart out like I usually do. I think I may have even sworn!! But you are right,we should try a bit harder and more people should join in as well.

In the reporter Andy said Ben Abbey would be our regular penalty taker..
I don't think he will be for much longer?!

We only get given one penalty a season.
Had it. Missed it. Live with it.
We don't need a "regular" penalty taker because We won't get the decision.

Agree 100% and a good manager adopts the same approach. Bawling out certain players does nothing for their or team confidence! Please take note AF!!!

did kumpur or daly get on the pitch at all, if so- first impressions?

Well, Kumpur didn't play, and Daly only came on for the last few minutes and so it's hardly fair to judge him on that. We'll just have to wait and see.

Overall, a draw was fair. Wilkerson pulled off a couple of good saves, and the same can be said for Kennedy at the other end, but as pointed out earlier, if Lutel James' late header had been either side of Wilko rather than straight at him, even he would have struggled to keep it out. Less said about the penalty the better, but we have struggled to settle on a permanent spot-kick taker ever since Jacko relinquished the role a couple of years back.

A draw against the 7th-placed team in the division can't be too bad, and results over the last month or so (e.g. the draws at Hereford and Morecambe) have been quite respectable. But we've just got to turn them into wins, especially with Leigh just two points behind us now with a game in hand. frown.gif

Absolutely, Prendergast was a disgrace to the game and I don't understand why the ref didn't take any action, everyone else in the ground could see what he was up to. Hopefully premiership ref Steve Bennett, who was in the centre stand, pointed this out to the officials to be more aware of such 'unsporting behaviour' i.e. cheating, in order to stamp it out of the beautiful game!
