Football Spoon Posted August 30, 2013 Share Posted August 30, 2013 31 August 1st meeting of the season between the 2 promoted play-off winners at Shawe View Trafford have made the brighter start and are currently sat in mid-table whilst their opponents are languishing at the wrong end without a point as yet. However, they win hands down in the nickname stakes, The Daniels. Apparently after the fattest man ever in England who is buried near their ground. Football Spoon Posted August 31, 2013 Author Share Posted August 31, 2013 Trafford 0 Stamford 2 (h-t 0-1) Att: 182 Not the best game I have seen this season, in fact if I am being honest, it was the worst. Trafford looked like they thought after Monday's brave effort against FC United that a match against their pointless visitors would be a walk in the park. Stamford in turn looked nervy and like a side who expected a hard afternoon. There was very little to enjoy in the first half, a few lame efforts and a lot of errors on the ball, the 2 high points, a touchline hugging 35 yard free-kick from left back Andy Smart that evaded everyone one and hit the far post, spinning back across the face of the goal and out for a goal kick and a goal from man of the match Ryan Robbins. As in Monday's game a ball played in behind Ally brown left the forward one on one with the keeper and he coolly finished. The second half was pretty much as poor as the first with probably even less class and finesse from the home team. Stamford should have doubled their lead a couple of times and a combination of poor finishing and frantic defending was keeping Trafford in the game. With 20 minutes remaining, a corner for Trafford, attempts to walk the ball into the net broke down and Ryan Robbins picked up the ball in his own half, with only one defender on him he ran at goal and a shot from the edge of the area somehow went in.
