Guess it was inevitable.

Hearing that Alex McLeish might be a front-runner for the vacancy.

Ridiculous as was the fascist tag.

Let's face it ,Italy is still in comparison to the Uk and other western countries very right wing.

Whatever he once got upto for lazio, the salute etc etc he never once showed that side in the British game as a player or manager.Always thought he was on a hiding to nothing once he went to Sunderland with the press and certain lefties in the north east who picked up in it and they probably had more of an influence than the results

Not sure,to be honest I don't really know his history.

I know about the salute to the ultras on the curve sud at lazio but was it actually him being facist or just stupidly playing up to the ultras.

Well the thing is I don't like to correct you in this case but above you said that Italy in comparison with the UK is still very Right Wing. In actual fact it isn't really although of course there are right wing groups as in a lot of central Europe including their neighbours Austria however Italy has a lot of hangovers to its communist era. Regions and towns are run very communally, as is the bureaucracy, Italy is in fact a communist country without the totalitarianism, jobs for everyone, banks and utilities publicly run for the public. Di Canio was playing to the crowd at Lazio but he's really a very silly boy who most italians feel is just a bit of a thicko but still a footballing hero.

The jump from Swindon to Sunderland was far too big and too soon for him, the whole ill fated appointment at the Stadium of Light was a joke from start to finish

Loose,it's what I meant without explaining it properly.

Know quite a few Italians over here and they don't come across as racist.

But like many places in Central and Eastern Europe there does seem to be a larger percentage of far right extremists than here or at least that's the perception we are given by the press et al

Well yeah, I suppose they can outwardly appear more visible but just like here it's a tiny minority. You hear of marches and protests being organised but you never see more than a few dozen actually turn up for the far right, there's always much higher numbers on the anti-facist side of the barricades. They are more successful at gaining seats at a local level but I don't actually know if they control any communes which is how local areas are organised.

I agree there, John.

Roberto is now the front runner and I don't think there'll be many better managers than him in the frame.

I have always found the Italian people to be the most friendly and decent of all the European countries I have visited. I just love their sense of style, the food and almost everything else about their beautiful country.

Really, I know one young woman from Seattle in the US won't agree with you there

To be fair that is just Di Canio's way of Managing and how he believes in getting the best out of his players, I've played under plenty of Managers like him on a Sunday over Hackney Marshes and Wormwood Scrubbs and, clearly, he will never be a Shankly, Clough, Mee, Nicholson, Busby, Mercer, Ramsey, Sexton or Revie.

At Swindon, he spent a lot and got the club into a heavy amount of debt which has since been sorted out.

He's one of those characters who thinks that it's his way or the highway - no compromise and his word is final.

Can't see him being given another chance in management for a long time.
