Wembley v Windsor 5th Oct

A trip to Wembley, well makes a change to touching the M3 and a trip to Surrey and Hampshire.

It is obvious, the second you are within eyesight range of the ground, that Budweiser sponsor the club. But what a refreshing change to see what a club can do with a bit of money.

The ground looked fresh and clean and tidy, its a nice ground but it looked good on top of that and the pitch looked superb. On entering the clubhouse, the wow factor really did take effect. Wood (or wood effect) flooring set off by some very modern and expensive looking furniture (leather tub chairs) and three (count them) wall mounted plasma screens. The bar had a great feel feel to it and a special thanks to the barman who showed my daughter how to make a butterfly from a piece of paper. Wembley origami, its the next big thing.

Unfortunately the football did not quite live up to the grandeur of the clubhouse.

Personally I thought Wembley looked mediocre and just unlikely to score from open play. Windsor looked slightly more comfortable and with a bit more of an edge. The first penalty was clearly a penalty, from the second Ben got the ball everyone knew what was going to happen: knock it past defender, defender trip Ben, Ben fly through air like he's been shot out off cannon. Very good pen from Hicks and 1-0, prob about right at half time.

Second half, we should have scored a few and when we did score the Wembley keeper had a right go at his defence, despite saving from a close range effort his defence decided not to challenge and Hicks got his second, again about right on the run of play.

so the game was not great, the ref was not great and the crowd was not great. But once again we switched off, some poor defending lead to a clear pen (last man takes down forward, why a second yellow not a straight red? on the standard of what I had already seen from the officials, about right). They scored and the last five was tense.

Overall, well done on the three points, a few seasons ago we would have drawn that so overall a good result.

We clearly have the ability in the players just need to keep our heads at times.

Well done chaps and go on you lepers!!!!

Interesting, I would say the quality of delivery of crosses in the first half was very low considering the players we had there. We were constantly caught offside, or given offside anyway, which leads to a strange event of the linesman having given offside when a Windsor player played the ball backwards, came off a defender, went forwards and Ben was given offside. He did actually apologise, and th officials are not the worst we have had but I guess at this level you get what is left over from the higher levels.

We also gave the ball away an awful lot, and the comment "if they had a decent striker we would be in trouble" was rolled out for the umpteenth time this season.

We did have moments of sublime football, and the pitch helped both teams to play passing football, but it was not an exciting game for the neutral i didn't think.

But as you say, we all have different opinions and that is a good thing.

Ultimately we got the result and that is the most important thing
