News from Dorking FC and Meadowbank!

Recommended Posts

Cant agree with you this time Nosher.

Does Cobham's ground "belong" to MVSCR?

Dorking FC is in a more robust condition than it has been for some years, and if Wanderers are to ground share I'm confident DFC will continue on its business and sporting plans.

Wanderers have always liked to court the press and media, but sometimes there is so much spin on it you have to check the elbow isnt bending too far.

Well, I'd be careful about letting a wolf in the door. It's clearly an ideal location for football and DWFC know it. However, they have never had a footprint in the town itself (as far as I am aware).

So I am still staggered at 1) how they have managed to convince the council they have a claim on Meadowbank and 2) that Dorking (however well run they may be now) are happy to acquiesce and have a potential Ryman team on their plot in a town that cannot sustain two football teams.

It's one thing battling to regain use of the shotgun but something entirely different to then blow your own foot off with it.

I'm not going to get too involved in this  ......

OTHER  than to say that M.V.D.C. have openly said that they have taken back the lease to the ground.

Therefore they can do exactly what they want as far as the ground is concerned,

Just for the record, I have been talking to a local Councillor regarding the situation, and he is as much in the dark as I am !!

Watch this space ????????

Could be interesting.

Ive had another look at the MVDC site and see no press release about Wanderers involvement, but they might just be a bit slower than DWFC in raising press statements, or there may have been nothing firm put in place.

I know DFC issue press releases hand in hand with the council when something has been formalised or agreed, and I expect that to continue, so it may be DWFC are being a bit speculative in this release.

We can all speculate, but again, Im just happy we are talking about football facilities in town and not carparks.

Please excuse my ignorance but BJR and TSF why can't the 2 Dorking sides be as 1 ?

To me it doesn't make sense having 2 Dorking clubs based and playing at the same ground ?

Is it that both Dorking and Dorking W. do not get on ?  If they agree to groundshare, then surely there must be some friendship along the way ?

Could it be that the 2 clubs have their own ego's  and want 2 separate teams....in my eyes it seems pointless.... but thats just my opinion.

Has this been thought of both teams amalgamating as one ?

You probably missed my post in the summer, where I suggested a merger may be for the best.  It didnt happen, I doubt it ever will.

Now personally I'm happy with two clubs representing Dorking, no reason we cant all get on.

The clubs have different philosophies, and can prosper in their own right, providing each clubs business and sporting plans are sound and achievable.

Great for Dorking, a Senior Rugby club at the top of their league , two senior football clubs, one looking for promotion and one going through  a renaissance, and a new ground and recreation area in the middle of town sometime soon.

Happy days!

Oh how I chuckled! Suggesting a merger of teams is something I'd only expect

from those deluded enough to think Yank sports are interesting or a blueprint for everyone else (which they're not.)...not those hereabouts.

'Mergers' are the stuff of the type of people who thought Franchise Scum FC of concrete cowland was a good idea and who probably wouldn't know passion and

rivalry if they fell over it. ( Just my opinion, of course. )

At the time I was suggesting it, DFC had their ground closed, struggled to fulfil fixtures, and faced a very uncertain future.

Wanderers were progressing, but reaching their limit out of town.

Most mergers should probably be called takeovers.

Anyway it's a different situation now for DFC of silver chicken land.

Blimey, I only asked why the 2 Dorking teams could not arrange a merger as 1 team in Dorking !!!

Personally, I believe there are some ego's flying about but then, you have Bedfont Sports and at one time Bedfont FC and they are right next to each other.....why didn't they merge ?

Maybe politics............... who knows ?? ;)
