Bad Luck Fellas

Bad luck but obvious experience shone through to take the tie. You had your moments in the first half but once Jay Smith had fired us level just 19 seconds in the second half, there was really only going to be one winner. Not the best display from Southend but then they didn't need to because you lot were disappointingly poor, especially after the fight you put up at Roots Hall.

Oh and the victory was somewhat marred by the morons who were unable to take defeat with dignity (much like Jeff King in his post-match interview) and decided to put in the windows of our supporters coaches with bricks, putting one of our young fans in hospital. Nice one lads. But I'm sure King can afford the FA fine.

The bus incident is a shame (I am neither a Canvey fan nor a Southend fan) and will have marred for many what should have beena great night for Southend.

You coming on here and trying to wind up the Canvey fans is stupid though. Can younot be gracious in victory? I watched the game, and thought that Canvey gave a great account of themselves and Southend should be glad to be through - it could have been different and you know it.

It is a shame if the Canvey fans behaved like this, expecially since many of those that they attacked will have been neighbours and friends I am sure. Incidently, why take supporters buses when it was only fives miles?

Good lcuk to both sides this season - perhaps you will meet again in the league in the near future....

Not winding them up at all. If they can't accept that the better team won on the night then they'll have a real problem in adjusting if they rise into the Conference and (dare I say it) the Football League.

Also I forgot to mention the morons who were lobbing rocks and bits of tarmac over the wall behind the Southend fans. The police started to pull Shrimpers for throwing until it was pointed out that the barrage was actually coming from behind the fence. Yet, just like the bus incident, they failed to do anything despite people getting hurt.

The buses were laid on because of the "exclusion zone" that was being laid out around the ground to save the parking nightmare that exists in that area of Canvey. It made real sense. Similarly Canvey took a few coaches to our place for the first match.

Well for what it's worth I agree that Southend deserved to win, on balance they were the better side (Smith's goals were pretty good). I thought Canvey played well at times, and hopefully gave a good account of themselves. I thought it was a good cup tie, apparently came across ok on TV. A real shame a good evening was spoilt by some neanderthals descending on the ground with (probably) no intention of watching the game. I haven't heard Jeff King's interview so can't comment on that. And I hope the young lad who was injured makes a quick recovery. Personally I enjoyed the game and hope we can meet again in the not too distant future.

Were there two Coaches that got bricked then?

My friend's brother, (Southend fan) went to the game last night and said the coach was bricked during the game, hence why 70 odd supporters were kept behind at the end.

Surely the poor kid was in the ground, watching the game rather than on the coach missing the action! <img src="/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Probably a load of Burberry clad, Essex rude boys looking for trouble, (sterotyping I know but...!)

I assure you that these 'fans' that did this were not regulars dedicated to the Yellow Army, (by regulars I mean those that freeze their [****!!****] off at Hayes/Harlow/Southend Manor watching their team playing in a Micky Mouse cup).

The only real trouble that Canvey have had are at big games where glory hunters come to make a bit of trouble rather than sing their heart out for the lads.

Anyway all the best for the rest of the season Shrimpers, no doubt I will be kept informed of your progress at College.

Nobody who is a regular at Park Lane would want to do anything other than condemn the mindless idiots who cause trouble at football games. It isn't really any help for us to say that they are not true Canvey fans because the end result is the same - damage to a coach and a young lad with injuries. We would be as quick to get on the Southend website with criticism had it been the other way around. Sadly these morons are out there, some in Canvey's colours, some in Southends (or Billericay's or Aldershots or Man U's. The list is endless).

Please don't blame me, or the other faithfull footy fans all over the county, for the behaviour of some of our brain-dead neighbours and I won't blame you if/when the boot is on the other foot. Let's unite and blame the hooligans themselves. Like love, they are all around.

If it helps I apologise for my fellow human beings (using the term loosely, of course) and share with you your disappoitment that a fantastic night was spoilt for many by a few.
