what about double glazing salesmen....

Couldn't they just be sealed up in one-man conservatories...permanently?
Actually, the ones that ring you up (just as your eating your dinner/on the lavvy/in the shower/having a bonk - delete as applicable) are the most annoying to everyone. They must feel pretty demoralised from the negative responses they get all day..surely?
The ones that have telephoned me lately have all had Asian accents, so I presume that the call-centres have relocated to India as well.
Trouble is...and you know me Unc, with my odd views on PR...is that the call-centre workers will end-up with a very poor opinion of us Brits. If they are not made aware of the "culture" surrounding cold-calling in this country, we might begin to be classed as a nation of rude, ill-tempered gits. And that's only after calling Billericay!!!

Double Glazing salesmen.........My way of handling them was invite them to your house at the same time, get them all to give you their lowest estimate....surprising how low they go........ then point out you already have Double Glazing.....and then slam the door on the lot of them. Watch them break the speed limit getting away fromyour house.oh i forgot..you note down their car numbers and inform the police....

Did something similar myself, U.S.A. But this was on the phone. I got the guy almost wetting himself by saying I was 'really interested' in his lovely offer. Kept him on the phone whilst giving him 'rough' dimensions of all the windows I wanted replacing and asking him for a 'ball-park' quote.

I could hear his calculator going overtime.

When he came back with his rough estimate, I asked him to send it to the the local council.

He asked, 'Why ?'

So I told him I lived in a Council House and they would be paying.

CLICK ......... Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

My brother played a great gag on an insurance saleman who rang one day. the guy asked to speak to Mr (edited for secuity reasons). My brother said that he was Mr ( ). My brother then answered a barage of questions until he was asked his age. He replied 12. The phone went blank!

On a similar vein, I had a saleswoman phone up last year, asking to speak to the "lady of the house". There's only me and my daughter living here, so I gave the phone to her. She's 9!

Apparently the woman said to her that she had "made a mistake" and put the phone down.

My littl'un has also had credit card applications sent to her. Just binned those. Couldn't think of a way to scam any money out of them without getting into trouble!

Funniest cold-call I had was last year tho' when an idiot called to tell me that I'd won a holiday. I deliberately acted thick [as if I need to act, you say!] and told him I hadn't booked a holiday. He went onto explain, at great length for about 3-5mins that I had won it and didn't have to book, at which I responded "What book? I've got lots of books". The entire call lasted about 10 minutes, with him ending up frustrated as hell. I'm now probably registered with his company as Mr Thick from Thick Town...but it gave me a laugh.

Anymore funnies, you lot. I'm enjoying this thread.

This is a true story(hand on heart).I was at home one day when a woman for a well known DG firm phoned, i gave her the brushn off. Her phone number came up on my caller ID. I came home from the church(pub) suitably full of religion at 1.15 in the am(it's along crawl) and rang the number. It was her home number as a lot of them work from home on commission. The phone was answered by a sleepy voice, i went into the very interestd client spiel only to be answered by a long silence. She then asked who it was, Without giving my name i said you rang about DG earlier and on reflection i decided to take up her offer and could she tell me the full line of her catalogue. I could hear a muffled voice in the background, and then a mans voice came on the line most of what he said i can't repeat, but asking who it was. I went through the spiel again. He warned me he was going to inform the police for making a nuisance call, at which i informed him i rated DG calls in the same vein. just before he slammed the phone down i told himi had circulated their number to many of my friends who were also interestd and were waiting to call...

PEACE PERFECT PEACE!

Yeah you wouldn't want to do that over there would ya! They've got guns!!!

You seen The Jerk (Steve Martin), where a deranged armed stalker with a telescopic lens tries to take Nathan Johnson (SM) out? Apparently the rifleman had just given up smoking and was looking to vent his frustration. Pre-dated the Washington murders of last year.
