Match report v Tamworth

Match Report:

On a cold dank Saurday afternoon in the Staffordshire market town of Tamworth, Gravesend belied their lowly league position to produce stirring performance to inflict a 3-1 defeat on their fellow Conference strugglers.

A 16th minute headed goal by Perkins from a free kick outside the box was followed by another goal in the 27th minute as Wilkerson long boot up field was controlled by Hogg who put through Walse, his left wing cross produced a Drury header that flashed into the back of the net.

The 2-0 scoreline did not flatter Fleet who could have scored a further two goals in the first half as Walse create a good opportunities as the ever dangerous Hogg had a shot blocked with only the goalkeeper to beat.

With Gravesend looking dangerous every time they broke it was somewhat of a suprise when Rickards scored with a low shot for Tamworth in the 44th minute.

However within a minute Perkins restored Gravesend lead when he nodded in his second of the game re-affirming Fleet's grip on the game to take a 3-1 half time lead.

 

The second half was a much more tighter affair although Gravesend did waste two clear cut goal opportunities created by the Man of the Match Anthony Hogg -whose pace and enthusiam kept the Tamworth back line on their toes for the whole 90 minutes- but further goals were not to be.

 

This was a good solid all round performance by Gravesend who received a standing ovation from the Tamworth 'shed' as they left the pitch - apparently a rare accolade for a visiting side.

I take it as read that most people would of spotted that Anthony Hogg is in actual fact an anagram of Dennis Oli (both have an 'o' in them and nearly the same amount of letters)
