Is it time for change ?

Old Dodder

Recommended Posts

We can't keep burying our heads in the sand.

The next three games are at home which will be up to 5pm 10th Jan. After that we are away to the sides who are 1st and 2nd. So, if the results up to the 10th are not better than draws, we are in big trouble !

So, something has to change, else we are back to Ryman North.

Is it some new additions to our coaching staff ?

Given we have only scored 22 goals, 2nd lowest in the division, do we need some extra fire power or better midfielders to create the chances ?

The real question is do we have the desire or resources to make the necessary changes ?

I believe changes are essential, we are down if we stay with the current set up.

Its easier said than done getting in the right playing personnel its down to availability Billy Roast has been excellent for example we need at least 3 quality players but from where ?,agree next 3 games are critical or its going to be a hard slog justkeep the faith

It's not easy. I don't think we're one of the four worst teams in the RPL but that's no guarantee that we'll stay up. The Grays game will be a good test as we were woeful against them earlier in the season and it will be a good gauge to see how far we've come. Too good to go down is a dangerous statement.

I saw some signs of encouragement in the second half, the passing in midfield was getting better resulting in Billericay getting three late yellow cards. On that pitch, that was amazing, I thought our pitch was bad, good grief. I don't think we've ever had to cover patches of our pitch up with sand in recent years. Unless we can come to some arrangement with the Athletics club then I can't see our pitch being the surface we would like it to be.

Final ball into the strikers, gaps leaving the defence exposed and individual mistakes, that's where we're lacking, that's my opinion as a fan.

Will that take new players or just getting our current ones to work on any issues on the training ground? Can we afford new players that are going to improve us, are they available if we could pay them?

Not an easy solution as far as I am concerned.

oh dear, waffling rant time.....here goes...... <_<

noteabley our worst season since, i dont know when.

We have lost good players because of end of last seasons antics away from this club, but we are also supposed to have good players that should be doing the job, but appear not up for it. I guess we dont have the resources for buying better players.

Our resources, i would say have to be used on more urgent matters off of the pitch.

Then again better players have already been snapped up by the likes of Margate, flashing the cash or becasue of the big hype, or gone to Maidstone as they're a club thats going places. Or even gone to a higher league as they see that playing for a Conference South team who may be mid table is far better that a lowly ryman team on the brink of relegation!!

I dont see the urgency from the team or even the club to get out of the bottom four. We have spent three quaters of this season at the bottom and with a few months of this season left, realaistly is getting out of the bottom something that is going to happen??

Yes but a few wins and a few results going our way is all very good, but we cant just rely on that.

Keep the faith? i support this club what ever will happen to it, or where ever it goes, as will the other 150 / 200 hard core do.

May be with have to look and think that maybe its best to take two steps back before being able to forward again? Sorry for being so honest....

Gives the club time on and off the pitch, time to regroup and see where we need, want and which direction to go in.

Also if it means that in that time our rivals can have their cup final and lets all laugh at Hornchurch moment, then so be it.

What goes around comes around!!

Hornchurch will have the last laugh one day!

I think it is difficult to suddenly find results when we are in the position we are in and that we just need a very hard worked 3 points from an upcoming game to give us some confidence again. Also we must take each game as it comes, concentrating on the next game. We have to win more home games, as that is what seems to keep clubs up in leagues when they are up against it.

Our support has been good lately both in numbers and noise. The drum is a good idea and so is the cheer horns. We have to keep the Bridge rocking!

I find it increasingly hard to comment seeing as I haven't been to more than 5 matches this season due to work and family,as you will probably all know,I'm not with Alice so spend my spare time with little legs, hopefully the new year will give me a chance to get over the bridge more and I hope that jimmy is still there.

It's a vicious circle, crowds are down, results are poor but as crowds are down I would guess finances are stretched.

Yesterday was our first defeat in 7,hardly relegation form but our miserable start means it is going to be hard to get out of the dogfight but with form like that,we should be ok.

I don't think we should panic,we will pick up points and have a manager who has won silverware and got us promoted as well as somehow getting us to the play offs despite certain off field problems.

It's easy to think we are a big non league club but the reality is,when most of our fans started supporting the club 10-15 years back we was massively punching above our weight,we are now finding that this is a reasonable sized club but no giant, that the hard facts.

Our natural level of support is probably around the 250-300 mark, maybe a bit more if doing well but a bit less if not so.......so what if we go down,it's not the end of the world,a change of scenery, new grounds and a chance to get a winning team back again....not defeatist but looking on the bright side should the worst happen,it won't IMO but if it does,so what, every team gets relegated (arsenal exempt),you dust yourself off and go again

The answer to Old Dodder's question is yes we do need a change and quite a radical one, which is something I've been suggesting for a while.

The style of play is poor and anyone who attended any games this season cannot but help to notice that we seem to love playing in half the pitch and ignore space all around - there is no width in our play and we continue to play the long ball when anyone can see that we play better when the ball is on the floor. This is not a criticism of the players as I feel we do have players who can easily get us up to mid-table by the end of ther season. The bench is to blame and no-one else. At the Billericay game I counted eight people sitting on or around the bench. Why this number and what value do some of them add? I feel we need a new approach, a new manager who supports a different style of play. This will bring the crowds back. Remember the lovely style of play when we were in the ESL. The owner needs to make some decsions.

I was surprised that there was no message on the website thanking the fans for their support and the unsung heros who keep the club going. Others clubs have posted messages, but nothing for us. Sixteen plus years I've supported this club through thick and thin, but I feel ignored. I've kept quiet about the Wimborne incident as people suggested action would be taken behind the scenes, but no message, no action and well known faces who have supported this club for many many years no longer attend as a result. No one seems to care any more about the fans which I think is a damm shame.

Over the last four seasons we have had promotion, cup finals, playoffs and a bit of a relegation battle possibly, only half way through the season so far !!!! If your not up for the battle ahead and love winning only instead of supporting your team and Club trot over to Stanford Bridge.

As for being wished a Merry Christmas by the Club I was greeted only the other week with a warming glass of mulled wine and a kiss from the girls at the turnstiles, who by the way stand there in all weathers supporting the Club and I am sure they are not that happy with our position in the League but they are always there. Also the Chairman bought all the away fans in the bar at Billericay a drink the other day, I think that was a very festive gesture !!!

How about we all dig in until the end of the season, stop moaning and support the team through thick and thin which is what being a supporter is all about. MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all X

We've already had a season in a relegation battle, in the conf south 2 years ago and I don't remember people talking about needing a change then. We also had similar difficulties in that we struggled to score goals. Competing is the first most important thing and we are doing that so we need to get behind the team and club and cheer us to safety.

People work there socks off to keep this club alive, so I would not want to see anyone sacked from the club. However I do agree our style of play needs to change. Fans come to watch football for two reasons, One to support there local club and also to be entertained. Our boring long ball game does not encourage floating fans to return. Also our way of playing is so predictable the opposition read our game very easily, we need to mix it up a bit.

I just want to clarify that I never suggested that Jim or Colin should be changed. Nor would I, what they have both done on and off the field is fantastic. Nor am I privy to the financial situation at the club and appreciate that it is probably an issue at the moment.

However, it is obvious that neither Colin or Jim are happy with the situation and that their aim is Connie South not Ryman North.

So, what I'm suggesting is addition to the management team who maybe has fresh ideas and contacts. Maybe even in a scouting capacity. I remember we used one of the Directors sons a few years back and that was very successful. The style of play is Sometimes an issue, that is why I suggested the right sort of players are needed to create the chances for the forwards. It's understandable that the playing surface is blamed, but I've seen opposing sides manage quite well on it.

Hopefully these posts will provide some food for thought.

That sort of suggestion is a sensible one.

Jimmy shouldn't be replaced,he has been a legend for this club and shouldn't be disrespected for one bad half of the season.

The shit that this club has had to put up with since we got in the conference south is remarkable, some players have let the club down in one way or another, others have left and our name has been tarnished because of their actions,we have been handicapped this season with the start we had with no home games and we are not rooted to the bottom of the table and although down there have probably got more than the other clubs down there in our locker to get out of the position.

We have low crowds, bugger all money and yet people think we should sack manager after one crap start in about 6 years, total garbage,I would t even replace him if we went down, which I sm confident we won't because he is a proven winner, but like every winner, you have off days and off periods and the winner always comes through in the end,so lets do us all a favour and cut the "replace jim" crap as it shouldn't and won't happen in my opinion
