Baggies v Ashford

Much to reflect on this week.

I agree that the title is probably beyond us and expect a 6th place position at best. As I have said before, after last season it is a good feeling around the Club generally.

We have good things to look forward to, including:

1. The chance to build on the current squad, under Ben's management, and make a real push next season;

2. Ground improvements including the replacement of the fencing after the 2013/14 Winter storms;

3. Outside improvements funded by Sport England for the Junior and Training pitches;

4. Hosting tournaments such as the Youth, Sri Lankan (thanks, Tyrone), and Christian (thanks, God) events, that will retain the Club's reputation as a "Good Place To Be";

5. Our Presentation Night;

6. The AGM in May, when we will make an effort to inject new blood into the Club and ensure the continuity for 2015/16 and beyond.

7. Successful performances across the Club, with special recognition for the Youth and Sunday sides, all of whom deserve greater recognition and support at games.

Reason to be pleased and supportive in giving the Club a more sustainable future, and be a REAL Community Club.

Amen

I don't get to many games these days, although I should hopefully be at the Colliers Wood game next Saturday, so perhaps my view isn't especially valid. That said, I always thought that winning the championship at the first attempt would be a tremendously difficult task, especially given the traumas of last season.

I've enjoyed the few matches I've attended - even those where Ashford have lost - because every time I've seen us play, the players have approached the game the right way and given their all. If you field a young team, as we have this season, then mistakes are inevitable. Sometimes, a small error will be decisive and when only one team goes up, the fine margins can be decisive.

Manurgrate is someone who has played for this club and who knows the game, so I read his post with a lot of optimism. Even if the title is beyond this group of players this term, second place could give whoever gets it a place at Step 4. So my suggestion is to just enjoy the fact that we're back to winning on a regular basis, still have realistic hopes of silverware in a couple of cups and have a young squad who will grow over the next couple of years. If we let our team play without pressure and give them our backing, they might just put a run of form together in the same sort of way as Badshot Lea are now.
