Boss Dowson Over The Moone With His Striker

Boss Alan Dowson had no worries Hampton & Richmond Borough striker Charlie Moone would re-discover his scoring touch - because it had never left him.

Moone, the Ryman Premier League's golden boot last term, has had a relatively quiet season at the Beveree so far this season, but popped up to score the only goal in a 1-0 win over play-off hopefuls Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday.

The frontman, who last scored in a 2-2 draw with Met Police on January 1, has received some criticism for being a little profligate in front of goal.

But Dowson, whose side has beaten two of the division's top three teams since he he took charge, had every confidence his man would be a match winner for him sooner rather than later.

"Charlie Moone has been scoring goals since he was born. He has been doing it all his career," he said.

"People have been saying he is not having a very good season and this and that, but scoring goals is what he does.

"He has probably never had a lean spell. Everything he has been hitting seems to have been missing.

"But there is no point getting on the training ground and telling him to work on something he is already very good at.

"When a striker is going through a little bit of a lean patch you've just got to let him go."

"He is a great example and a great kid and he'll come good for us."

Hampton head to Hendon in the league cup tonight.
